I drove a 2011 Volvo with a D13 ten speed in it. Had a light load. It had no power and fell on it's face on every hill. Now to be totally honest the truck I normally drive is a KW w 900L with an ISX 500, 13 speed and tall rubber. The Volvo has a much larger cab and sleeper than the 900, but as far as power, ride and handling goes the 900 is far superior.
Opinion on volvo vs detroit

I just had fuel pump issue fixed after an 8 months recall wait. Thankfully it wasn't an issue for me.
I was told that the carbon builds up in pistons due to the egr system in those cm2250 and scars the liners...then it's a snow ball. That's what I have been told. It was burning 2 gallon of oil every 4k miles when I took it in. I called cummins and they wanted me to run for a month and put together an oil consumption log. I laughed. I haven't heard that problem in the 870/871 though. -
My cummins and dd15 pull pretty much same when driving hills but starting off the torque on the cummins far superior.
-
2 gallons 4k miles..wow How offen did you change your oil?
I have myself cm2350 isx 15..your story scares me now. -
Not when it comes to 86 in studio sleeper in KWs.

d13 is easy engine like series 60 but parts are expensive. d13 does not have common rail fuel system like dd15. Volvos fuel system is a copy of series 60 fuel system just a little developed. its not a bad engine. I have seen 'million plus miles' engines without overhaul.
-
But can dd15 make million miles regular without overhauls?
-
yes it can. my cousin's 2009 Cascadia with dd15 has little over 1m miles. he got that truck brand new and maintained very well.
-
It's rare to see the post 2007 engines to go through million miles without overhaul.
