    Hello AfterShock,

My sky scan atomic clock just flipped triple digits for the first time for 2008. That's in the shade at 1653hrs.100.8F

Thanks AfterShock and Lurchgs. Actually thanks to everyone for their in put. Good questions and helpful responses. Doesn't seem like a lot of hard heads demanding their position. :biggrin_25517:

I think, I think I'm get close to jump'n on a truck. I just have to finish up remodeling my house before I can be sure. This website has really been a great place to help one think through all this.

The best stuff I've read is that you have to take the loads, and a person needs think more about the job and less about going home. Driving is hard on a persons family life. It sounds like a job for a single person and people who have had children that have grown up and left home, and retired. With the way things are going in our country retired people will have to go back to work. :biggrin_2556:

    Hay IMG,

You were going to Flagstaff last you were here. You were going to watch for Schneider trucks and look to see if their numbers were painted out. Did you even see any SNI trucks?

I have gone to the truck stops in Kingman numerous times since, to see if their numbers were painted out. Ya, know what, I haven't even seen any SNI trucks.

    No kiddin'?
    Shux Howdy!
The temps have hit triple digits several times already this year,
here in SoCal. And yesterday was one of them.

It's about time Kingman decided to warm up. :biggrin_25525:

Thanx for the weather report, IGM. :biggrin_25514:

I noticed it on all the SNI trucks I saw. The first time I saw it, I though it was just graffitti or somehing. The 5th time I saw it, I was starting to detect a pattern. Never saw an un-painted trailer - they all had the exchange (middle 3 numbers) painted out. (this was everywhere I went between Atlanta, Fargo, and SLC in two weeks)

Heheheheheheh, and it's drier here so the heat feels less hot than the Inland Empopper. :biggrin_25522:

Lurchgs you just confirmed THESTORYTELLERS observations from a few weeks back. I've been out looking for SNI trucks and I haven't seen but one. There not to big here anyway but I use to see at least one or around the T/A every time I drove by sometimes three or four.

I've been concerned about this since I came to this website. This is why I came here. I hope drivers will still get paid what they get paid. But we could be I for a huge down turn in our economy. This going to be a big one. :biggrin_25524::biggrin_25524::biggrin_25524::biggrin_25524:

I have been trying to finish this remodel and get with a company. It may be done in a couple of weeks. Then I can get hot on a driving job. I fear I won't make before things really dump. My plan was to get in there and show them my stuff. I don't care wear I drive or when I get home. I may not get a chance. :biggrin_25513:

What's confounding me is that people are still being taken on at some companies. Like yourself Lurchgs.

    The investigation continues. :biggrin_25526:

    I hope I'm wrong.

lol - you mean I can't possibly be the best thing since sliced napkins?

As somebody else pointed out - freight will still roll. And it IS still rolling. Yes, some companies are downsizing (rumor mill offers up all kinds of reasons)

I, personally, think the paradigm (I've wanted to use that word here for a long time!) is gonna shift:

Rail is gonna lay new track - improving their ability to haul from one end of the country to another.

Trucking companies are going to - generally - move away from long haul and become regional/local. Yes, there WILL sill be long haul trucking. Off the top of my head, things like nursery loads will still be road-hauled. Specialty loads - oversized, heavy haul, etc. Not gonna hit the rails. But my guess is that OTR will become 10% of what it is today.

Not gonna happen tomorrow, or even next year. Possibly not even 10 years.

Heck, I may be completely whacked and it'll never happen. But I think it will. It should. It makes economic sense.

I have less faith that the current economic downturn is going to be horrible. A bit steep, yes, as we recover from the Clinton administration (Take a look, and you'll find that it takes about 8 years for the economy to reach to a change in policies... don't ask why, I don't know. It's one of those things that frustrated the economics professor I was talking to)

    Remember...... neanderthal man??? :biggrin_2559:

....and I get picked on around here for talking over people? :biggrin_25523:

I want a vote of how many truck drivers know that the only form of energy the brain uses is glucose........... and you get glucose from sugars (which are most commonly carbs broken down)........... com'on, com'on....... how many?.....:biggrin_25524:

And....... this one is for Chief...... if Lurch can talk about dieting (on a truckers site) .... then I can talk about real estate!! :biggrin_25522::biggrin_25522::biggrin_25522:

I can't help it if I'm 6'6" and the rest of you are ... short.

You know I'm raising my hand, don'tcha?

What was that diet fad a few years ago... Watkins, Watson... WWWWW-something I think it was. Advocated eliminating carbs. Problem was, when the brain is not functioning right, one of the side effects is frequently depression. Friend of mine was on that diet for 6 months (over my objections). Finally died of explosive lead poisoning.

Well, you gotta admit that diet at least has SOME bearing on most of us wheel-jockeys. The only real-estate I'm involved in is my own home.
