I sort of agree. I am of the belief that you can pay a bit more for something made here and it is a higher quality and will last longer. So in my mind ..do I want to buy, throw away, or buy it and keep it for a long time ... I tend to spend the extra for a better product. I realize it's tough for many people.
Pay skyrocketing? Prime pays noobs .43 & Landair trucking pays .49 on regional! WTF?

Take the total amount of money you gross at a job for a quarter, half or full year. Divide that by the number of days you work. That gives you a per day average. It's the only way to accurately compare company pay. It takes into account incidental pay, bonuses and other things outside of miles X CPM. That per day average can be calculated for any job.Grijon Thanks this.

Or spend more money and wish you could afford to live poorly.

Most small to mid-size companies around Chicago pays 50-60 ct/mile as long as you can drive a truck, no exp necessary. A friend of mine- fleet owner pays $0.60/mile for his drivers, and still has a few trucks without a driver any given day...

50-60 cpm won't even pay the rent on a respectable apt around Chicago. It would barely pay the bills in a place with a much lower cost of living, like Sioux Falls, SD or Joplin, Mo. I use them as an example, because I have lived in or around both.

If a single person can't live on $900+ take home per week, then something is wrong. Even in places where a higher cost of living prevails, that kind of money is not too bad. Add in a spouse who brings home a paycheck, and things are somewhat better.crazyjack Thanks this.

Thanks for a backup my friend, i thought I'm not getting something... because even if you do 2500 miles a week @ 50cpm would bring $5000 a month easy. I remember days when i was making 28cpm @ 3500 -4000 miles a week. As far as I know rent did not double since then
And I am not saying people should make less or more,- all I'm saying that drivers can make good money these days, if of course they want to work

So what miles does Superior Carriers usually give the 1st year guys that are straight out of cdl school?
I live 10 miles away from the Charleston, SC terminal.
I'd say they're my top choice carrier atm to go with after school just based on their pay/enviroment/experience received that I saw on your threads about them. -
