Nah, I don't work there at Celadon. I tell them how many hours I have available and mention it'll be tight and if there are any complications I won't be able to make it on time. The problem with those 8 hour days is if you plan to get somewhere around the 7.5 hour mark, you run into some sort of problem (traffic, tarp issue, etc), and then you're stuck violating the 70 hour rule if you leave. The 11 hour rule has the exemption for emergencies. Does the 70 hour rule have the same exemption? What if I get to the shipper and they take 4 hours to load? What if I take a long time tarping because the load has such an odd shape? Things happen out here, out of our control, and I don't like to chance a logbook violation because of my short hours available. And really it makes more sense to let me do the 34 reset. I'll usually have 11-13 hours of on-duty and driving a day, eating up my 70 in 6 days, and having a full 70 hours to run again on the 8th day, instead of the 4 or 5 hours I may recover if I run like the drivers who don't like to work. I wouldn't be in this position if I hadn't done the company a favor by recovering a truck for them, and I don't intend to do any more favors for the simple reason that they don't return them.
Should I just start telling everyone to run illegal?

No there is no legal reason to drive over your 14 or 70 hour.
Yes I agree there is a problem in my opinion when you get towards the end of your 14 or 70 hour and wow you are stuck in traffic but DOT says I can't drive over because i guess this should not happen at the end of my 14 or 70 hour. Well I don't understand why there isn't exceptions for this as well, however I tell my drivers to log it as it happened and make a note.
I stress to drivers to make sure you plan # least 2-3 hours at a customer and plan extra time for traffic that you can plan for anyhow
. If something happens well crap happens do what you have to do. This isn't intentionally running over this is something happened I had to do it. I wouldn't continue running over just to get the load there on time. I would tell my dispatcher I can not make it because of this or that reason. Usually where I work if the driver runs and doesn't complain about everything and anything and he/she says they need a restart there usually isn't a question asked.
The questions start when a driver has driven 1200 miles and saying he needs a restart or 2 days ago you was off 33 hours why didn't you stay down one more hour? That's what one of my drivers was doing. Kid you not! Not just one day either and he knew he left 1 hour early
NO it had nothing to do with dispatch

Everything I have learned about keeping a Log I have learned on this site. Never had a class. Never went to a driving school. Haven't ever spent the night in a truck. At the end of June I go over the road. I have never liked the idea of giving my hard earned money to the state revenue collection officers. So learning to log it right. Being able to get the most driving time each day and being safe and responsible are all important to me. Thanks LogsRus for being here for me!!!

Oh No I am nervous now
You learned off here? Now lets do some recaping to make sure you understand it all! l.o.l. I hope you understood what I/we said correctly. That's usually the biggest problem is drivers think they understand and they get in trouble and just automatically say I am not asking her/him anything again, when actually it was just a miss use of words.
But thanks, really I am giving you a hard time. Good luck and just come here if anyone says anything different when in orientation or on the road. If you get in a disagreement then ask me about the disagreement. This is how many drivers learn. But never 100% believe what another person says without asking me or someone you know who understands the regulations. -
No yall will not hire solo's out of North Carolina, I tried had a friend from San Antonio just start with yall and I tried but no luck for me!
