Why are day cab guys always sleeping?

    I once had no wife

    I once had no kids

    I once had peace

    I once had quiet.

    I once had hair on my head

    I once was slim and fit

    I once could eat anything I wanted

    I once owned 3 motorcycles.(at different times)

    now i'm old, tired, bald, graying, fat, nearly deaf, the only peace I get, is when i'm on the toilet, the only quiet I get is when everyone else is asleep, the motorbikes are gone, but not forgotten, and now the only brown hair I still have grows on my back, and no one seems willing to help me shave it, as they too all seek peace and quiet, from my ever so loudly screams of....

    SOME ONE PLEASE, SHAVE MY BACK...............!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Exactly. I was so excited and still am to have recently gotten a local job, but most otr/regional, you start your bed and food routine after parking. You also get up and get right to work (obviously not on unload mornings).

    Local you get up and hopefully get the truck (you usually share) at the usuall time. If not you wait and of course wont start your clock until necessary, then you might be out 12 hours and then drive home. If your single you gotta get food for yourself, then consider if bathing would be good, but probably not because by the time you get to sleep you are hoping to get enough to not feel hung over as hell in the morning.

    Sleeping at home and the days off are huge advantages, but the roads dont turn to gold as soon as you switch to local. Not to mention the equipment usually is good but wont be as nice and comfortable as a lot of the cab trucks.

    I must be a lucky SOB I make plenty good money being local and have a set schedule. I rarely go over 12 and can run OT days if I want or have 3days off every week. The family time I get can't be replaced by OTR comforts at all.

    nearly every night, when I show up for work, I check my truck, check the warehouse to when i'll be leaving, then go into my day cab, lay across the seats, and zone out till they are done. so I nap before my run, saving time for later.

    The local driving job I did last summer as a stop gap was actually a pretty laid back, easy going job. Worked at night so there was no traffic. My shift was 8 hours, but usually only worked for six or seven (still got paid for 8 ). Was a short run back and forth between two lumber facilities. Pick up hogged fuel at one, unloaded at the other. Rinse, repeat to the tune of about 5 runs a night.

    Never went farther than 10 miles from the yard. No log book, never had to deal with the DOT. The only thing that got slightly annoying was when the mill was running slow or had a breakdown which caused loading delays for me. Had a few occasions where it would take 2-3 hours for them to skin enough trees to make a load worth taking. But, in the spirit of the thread during those times I'd have myself a nice nap.

    If bubba the driver knocked on my door and invited me to sleep in his truck I'd probably just start up my truck an GTFO of that place.

    I can make it out and almost all the way back everynight...lol

    My run is 5 hours each way...torture for me...Im not a highway demon like a lot of ya..When I hit the offramp and drop, I drop hard, and quick..I hoist my legs over to the passenger seat (Ottoman) and Im gone..I'll go 40 minutes before I wake up all sore and cramped
    But Im recharged!! A surprising amount for such a crappy nap !!....Im only 40/50 minutes/miles from my terminal at this point..fresh coffee, 6 or 7 cigarettes, sprinkle some meth on my donut (just kidding)..and I break trailers till its time to fight with TM bout HOS....They're getting every possible second
    Sometimes I will bypass the speed governor by using a paperclip at the driveshaft sensor location, and do 76/77 all night, its buys me 20 to 30 minutes each way..Its the only way I can make my run without sleeping..But, with 4 other guys out governed at 64, Im bound to get snitched on eventually, so I usually haulass on Fridays only..

    Hate you guys that be using the rumble strips as alarm clocks!!! Usually its O/O's....dont know if its co-incidence or not...

    Got one guy, he just falls forward into his seatbelt and sleeps..he looks dead, its funny...mouth open, slobber, all of that..like, if he was in a parachuting accident and was hanging from a tree in his harness dead or something

    Anyways, i ramble
