I'm getting out of the Army in October and am trying to decide what flatbed company to work for after truck driving school. I'll be living in the Bristol, TN area when I get out. I've narrowed my choices down to Melton, Roehl, and Maverick.

Maverick has the best healthcare for driver and family, plus APU's on trucks.

True, but they are the only flatbed companies I've talked to that will accept me for orientation after having shoulder surgery. TMC will accept me as well, but they told me it is their physician that makes the call when I get there. The autos in the trucks don't bother me, my focus is getting out on the road and becoming a safe, efficient driver.

I too have a toss up to decide between between Roehl and Mavericks after coming off an 22 year comeback to the industry .. Roehl plus as for covering the 48 and I'm old school manual transmissions, downer is the contract sign on for 75000 miles w/o have the Roehl giving any "type" of guarantee of mileage and the "hand holding FM's . ..... Mavericks weighs in on pay and bennys ,probably get home more but the downers are auto's not that there's anything wrong with them but I haven't had the pleasure being under a load on a down grade with automatics or any load for that matter

Automatics with a properly utilized engine retarder are just fine on downgrades. The only issues I've had in autos, is they seem to get stuck easier on snow, ice, and mud, and they can't be pull started like a manual.
