I'm curious, if the owner of a brokerage has bad personal credit does that show up when doing a credit check? Or does only his business credit rating#show#up?

If it is a proprietorship, it may show up on his credit history. If it is a corporation, it may not. Having said that, it depends on what source you use for credit approvals. Some may only report on what is reported to the rating or credit service. If it is something you are concerned about you could call the credit reporting service you use and ask them.

G/MAN is right. You can try contacting Ansonia Credit Services to get credit checks on brokers. Being a NASTC member gives me some kind of discount there, I think. It's not too expensive - you just pay for each time you check on one and the cost depends on how detailed a report you want. The cheapest one does me fine. I think it's about $7 or so - money well spent, if you have a concern. Relieves a lot of stress.

Brokerage credit and personal credit are 2 separate things, you just have to put more money up to get a brokerage if your credit is not good or you don't have enough assets or money revolving in your accounts. It all matters how fast you pay your brokerage bills that's what gives you the credit on the brokerage and your personal credit does not reflect that whats so ever. You can pay all your business bills and have great brokerage credit and be a rat and stay behind on your personals and it won't matter.
Erick Evans Thanks this. -
The best transportation related credit reports come from TransCredit. They have been in business for over 30 years while Ansonia has only been on the block for about 8 years or so. Ansonia is also owned by Orange Commercial Credit which is a factoring company so be cautious if you are sharing data with them!

I agree with both G/Man and Robert Grey’s responses. It really gets down to the credit source you are using.
For the record, I wanted to correct Michael’s false statements about Ansonia. Ansonia has been in business since 2006 or 12 years. Ansonia is not owned by Orange Commercial Credit. The two entities do have common ownership but are run completely separate. Data confidentially is guaranteed and never shared between the two. If you ask around you will find that Ansonia has built a trusted and reliable reputation in the transportation and factoring industries. This is demonstrated by Ansonia receiving trade data from over 90% of the largest LTL carriers, over 60% of the largest TL carriers, most of the 3PLs in North America as well as over 250 factoring companies. This data provides Ansonia customers the most accurate and unbiased payment information to make informed decisions and know when they will get paid.
