Key start to push start

Looks like there is 2 wires on center pole .
Move both those wires to the start button. Then put a key on power to other pole on start button

Looks like someone has been in there and jimmy rigged another wire for what ever reason. Just hook both up.

 

Spend the money to have someone that knows what they are doing rewire it.

It's cheaper than replacing a burn down truck.

 

Both wires off center pole go to just one pole on button

The other pole on button gets a key on power wire

 

I don't really see any really theft deterrent in doing this. I can't tell you how many times I had a road call with a bad solenoid or wiring issue to the starter solenoid. If I didn't have what I needed, I just jumped the solenoid on the starter to get it to a shop. If they can still hot wire the ignition switch, they'd just need to jump the starter.

I think you'd be better off hiding a kill switch that kills power to the ignition switch altogether. Re route the power to a hidden switch that you need to turn on to power the ignition switch.

I seen a truck once that had a valve that locked service brakes. I tried to bring a truck in the shop and the brakes were on and the owner flipped a switch for me and they released. He used a normally open air switch to feed the service line from the parking brakes (under the dash). If the switch was open, when you released the parking brakes, it put air to the service brakes as well. Flip the switch to close the valve and everything worked normal.

Oh man. This reminds me of one of my favorite oilfield stories.

This guy, an 'old trucker' who had 'ran trucks for 30 years' showed up at a frac site his first day with the company. They were waiting around for quite a while with the trucks shut off and when it got time to get going his truck didn't start. After a few minutes he came over the radio asking if anybody had a set of pliers, because he couldn't get his key to turn over all the way. My friend who told me this story walked up to his truck, he opened the door and pushed the starter button and the truck fired right up!

Evidently in that 30 years of trucking he had never drove a Peterbilt!
