This REALLY is a messed up situation!!
The truck driver is dumbfounded if he does an dumbfounded if he doesn't. He or she cannot win or lose for heads or tails!
It is REALLY a slap in the truck driver's face to be paid 85% LESS than the lumper for doing the exact same identical task of unloading the freight from the trailer.

I know many of you wanted to say f this, and to unload the #### trailer yourself just to get out of the facility

My instructor told us that when he was OTR he'd go to the dock and give them 2 hours. If they didn't load/unload in 2 hours he'd go get someone to sign the BOL refusing the load.
He said that the cosignee would either sign or unload their stuff.
He's company allowed it.dog-c Thanks this. -
Exactly why I quit the business....all the reasons listed and more.
You don't get that...holiday, premium pay, bonus, day off, vacation, raise and so on BECAUSE YOUR A DRIVER ! But here, want some popcorn?
But wait! My all time career favorite! From the podium in front of like 40 drivers at a safety breakfast and from the VP .........." You drivers are nothing but a necessary evil, if it weren't for a few customers I would run you all off right here and now" ......no kidding.
This was the VP's response to our refusal to run team for std. single wages.
4Q's buddy.... -
Does that actually work? Would love to try this.texasbbqbest Thanks this.

Worked for him apparently. If you try it, make sure your dispatcher is okay with it - in writing (at least that's what I would do).
-
I can't answer this......never quit.

Me and my wife live in the truck for 6 months and then take a break to go overseas(Vietnam) for 4 months and come back to the same compagny. We have a house there(paid off). We have been doing it for 3 years now and we will keep doing it as long as they allow us to. If they get tired of it, I will just go work for another company.
To some of us, trucking is not a career but a means to an end.Last edited: Aug 6, 2015

I plan to do the same. I have other means of income which is why I want to get my own truck since I wont have to drive nonstop day and night on high pressure Tyson runs. I never quit a trucking company but plan to do so to get my own truck. Also my fleet managers are now 20 year olds who get swapped around and have no idea what they are doing. Just today three of them told me to go to a different place and then I left and changed it again.

I had 3 jobs in 20+ years last i quit was because there was no futur working there, the owner was getting older and had no child to take over...actually it's a matter of time before he shut his business down.
If there is any kind of shortage it's not a driver shortage but more a nice companies shortage!!!
