I quit the day my TM poked a hole in a hazmat barrel with the forklift blades...He layed the barrel over, hole side up..It smelled so strong, everyone got stoned we had to open up all the roller doors for ventilation...anyways, he parks it next to the forklift chargers..I was done, this was the third time I feared exploding on the dock

I quit JB because I was tired of overnight 500 mile runs with no flexibility of delivery times, after sitting all day long waiting on the Qualcom to beep. They were famous for that crap. A driver can only do so much to control his/her sleep patterns.

I started in Oct. of '13 with a locally owned and operated OTR carrier in my area as a company driver. They we're honestly a decent company with a handfull of office people, well maintained new equipment, and good miles if you were willing to run hard (all legal too). The avg. trip was 9-11 days out then they would ask when you wanted to turn again from home. ALWAYS got me home when I requested, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Independence day...
I left after about 14 months with a 2 week notice on good terms and a spotless record and truck. I needed an LTL driving job where I could see my wife and kids more. I am very happy as a local driver now, but if I ever went back on the road I would return to this company in a hurry. I feel like I am very fortunate to have started with such a good company after reading all the horror stories so many driver's go through to break into this unforgiving industry. Best of luck to all and God bless!bentstrider83 Thanks this. -

I have one year in one the trucking deal, spent a lifetime as a boat captain. From what I can tell as I passed my year with Millis and got the 1 cent raise when I get call after call from companies wanting to pay way more some like OD for line haul starting at 65 cents per mile and I am OTR for like 40 with bonus...Dont get me wrong I drive the route I want, I fuel where I want, I am not hand held by my dispatcher which I really like, but to me its about owning something some day...why can Schneider have this great product called IC where you get to dispatch yourself and no other company has it? And Schneider is taking over 25% for this... IDK
Be Safe Out There

Stupid dispatchers who had no clue, never drove a truck and thought they knew it all was annoying. Living out of a truc and showering in a building where food is served or trucks fueling up, not to mention getting in a shower after somebody else was in there. Sure they clean them but how well do they really clean them. Getting home on time on a consistent basis was like going to the dentist. Sitting and waiting at shippers/receivers or waiting on a new load. I ended up getting burnt out putting up with all the nonsense silly games and keeping my mouth shut, most of the time. So quit and went local. Kept my eyes open for my gig now and jumped on it when it came around. One of those jobs that doesn't come around very often. And haven't looked back since. Only looking forward to what the future holds for me here.

My dispatcher was hired cause he grew up with the owner. He had no experience i mean none he came from a meat packing plant! Didn't know conputers, texting, maps, time management or organization. He would actually forget to dispatch loads! My company isn't even the kind that has to find loads they just call us when need chemicals.

No respect or care for drivers
Do not maintain safe equipment, we pull hazmat tankers kinda need things safe.
Told us as drivers we are a dime a dozen -
I was talking with my HR rep today, and I saw a resignation letter on his desk from a driver. When I inquired about it, he said that the driver decided to quit when he got a written warning for hitting a bridge and destroying a trailer, then a second written warning the next day because the Qualcomm reported that he was speeding. He felt that he had been disrespected because of the written warnings, so he quit. The HR rep wasn't happy, because he really liked the guy.
