I need a massive favor - do you know of any LTL carriers with terminals in or around Gary Indiana?

Saia's nearest terminals are in South Bend Indiana and Burr Ridge Illinois.. both are pretty far from Gary.. con_way is in gary (hammond). FedEx freight, ups freight, abf, yrc are all just on the Illinois side of the border. Dayton freight is in lowell, in. There is also a bunch of ltl companies on 47th st near i55, kinda far tho.

Brtecson, thanks so much for taking the time to respond. Are you working in the LTL industry by any chance?
-
Yes, I work for Saia in the upper midwest.

The Con-way barn in Gary is located off 80/90 WB @ the 5 yard stick. Indiana SR 910 N approx 2 miles north to exit 8b (i forget the name of the road) then turn on the first left (Blaine Ave) and the yard is down on the RHS. It's a 100 door super narrow dock that does 3-4 million (pounds) cross dock and a few sub service vans a night. The terminal is located right next to a large porta-potty facility, nice smell in the summer
. Maybe 110-135 drivers there.

Nice, I hope to work there 2 someday, after I get some experience, think they require 1 year, right?

Cool! The Burr Ridge terminal actually has a "dock to driver" program where they work you on the dock and they train you to get your CDL. You could inquire more info from the folks at the terminal about that because I dont know the details about that. Other than that, generally most SAIA terminals require that you have 1 year of experience.Tigerroad Thanks this.

brtecson, thanks so much for taking the time to respond, really appreciate it. I would absolutely be willing to start on the docks - do you recommend going to the terminal and talk to the terminal manager?
-
You would probably be best off calling them as they don't normally allow unsolicited guests past the gate. Ask for the terminal manager or transportation manager.
Tigerroad Thanks this.
