E="daf105paccar, post: 4719572, member: 84272"]Who knows, that smaller dealer might care more about his clients and have invested the time and money to go to the classes the brands want them to follow to keep up to date with modern times.
There is a thread on TTR by a warranty manager.
In it there is a story about how a dealer wanted the trucker to pay the work and parts for a repair done on a truck under warranty and then, according to that dealer, the trucker had to reclaim that money from Paccar, which is complete BS.
Would i trust that dealer to work on a'12..................NO.
But would i trust him to work on a '99,full mechanical engine......................?
    NO WAY!!!!!!!
Because that dealer is just out there to get the $$$$$ from truckers.[/QUOTE]

I don't trust the stealership to touch anything, and wish I could find a 1999 that was full mechanical :)

I didn't mean to pick on Cummins without mentioning others as well. But I am out there and I only know what color the engines are as I drive past them with the hoods open. It does seem that Cummins has a huge problem with the integrity of their blocks. What kind of cast iron are they using?
For example when Cummins switched from 12 to 24 valve engines in their pickups, they switched to a factory in Mexico for the blocks.
These are known as "53 blocks " to distinguish them from the earlier ones. The 12 valve engines were bullet proof, but the 53 block engines are known for cracking at a weak spot. Different cast iron turned out to be the reason. This was a giant problem for Cummins and Dodge back in 1999 or so. They never lived it down entirely.

One might think that Cummins would be the last engine builder to have that problem still going on, but NO, they can't seem to care about their reputation. I love the old Cummins engines, but I would be terrified to own an ISX after what I witness every day.
And don't trust Commiefornia to ever stop jerking the working people around. They have gotten very good at it and seem to think that without them the air would be unbreathable. There are just 6 people on the CARB board that are appointed by the Governor and are all left wing activists. They control the lives of hundreds of millions of people by their decisions. How did this ever happen?

Easy, they want us to drive for a big company. You know how much grant money they gave to huge out of state companies like fed ex or ups I forgot. Those companies had hundreds of new trucks bought for them.I among a bunch of owner ops in my circle who couldn't qualify for anything. .o_O

Camelclutch, cannot agree with with your statements above.
If you followed CARB from the early days, then you would have known about several programs that were in place just for O/O.
So to say they only gave money to big fleets is distorthing the facts.

Can you give some info on how those programs worked? I don't need details, just a summary. The problem with adding a DPF to become compliant is the outrageous COST. Maybe $5K would be workable, but not $15K to $20K!! I only paid $16000 for my truck. Then it has to baked clean every 50,000 miles. Another big time stealer and about $500 .

Your right, I was first told by carb that 2014 I could get a filter for my truck.I was also told this by the emissions experts in Corona. THEN after that was told I could retrofit BUTT I wouldn't be compliant, my truck is too old. After the run around was told that I could apply for some grants.I went to the dealer and was told I would have qualified if my truck was two years away from the deadline. IF I was a multiple truck owner with one newer truck Then I would be able to trade one of my trucks in.By the way they mark up a truck 35 k then you get the Grant for the same amount. Wheee

Also, was told that with my truck being a mechanical engine I would be granted an extension till 2018 , then they changed all that again. Im working on the 20000 mile work truck deal , giving me till this December. All year I've been working with guys like me, others who have upgraded and a bunch of renegade prix who are buying up all the old trucks and running them. We're ALL having to compete for rates lower than 10 years ago

Well that seems to be the agenda. Since it can't be to clean the air. As usual the politicians use fake environmental concerns to further force the small business owners out. I have seen this play out in this state for 25 years. Constantly making everything harder for us by raising taxes and adding level after level of red tape and laws. If these new trucks cause just one fire, there go all the soot savings for many years from emissions. But they haven't caused 1 fire. They have caused dozens. Forests have gone up in smoke because of these unsafe emission engines. But the tree-huggers want clean air and trucks are evil.
I am expecting a DPF caused fire where many lives are lost. Its just a matter of time. People out there living their lives today will be dead after a neighborhood or city catches fire from this. They will need to cover up the cause as being from "california -only-required-emission equipment."

Safety ?, all day long I see cops driving around on duty texting and making personal calls.Last week saw a pig turn on his lights to bypass a traffic jam and get to burrito shop, cutting off oncomming traffic, putting the public in danger, to then get out of the cruiser , leaving it running for close to 45 minutes while he and his partner ate and joked inside the restaurant. $aftey first right? Only if you make the rules can you burn money , then ring out all the working folks for some more money every day.Ok... sorry ,off topic rant, no more coffee for me
