Opinion on 2001 freightliner for sale

Looks like a ruff looking truck. Was it in an accident? (Whitehood) price is too high. 7k to 8k at most

 

I agree, but its an 01 FLD. We got a ways to go before anything becomes rare on one of those

 

$15k and you could get one with at least a coffin sleeper. I'd say $7-8k at most just because you could get more truck for $15k. Good luck

 

its worth its weight in scrap metal.
its old and out dated.
so what if he fixed all these and that on it. he did that so it could run as it should. those repairs will out last the truck....
waste of money if its over 5k.

keep searching. you can find something MUCH better for 10-14k.

 

think about what could break even with the head and other parts begin replaced...
trans 4-7k
rear ends 2-4k
cooling system 1-3k
bottom end 3-7k
electrical system ???

all kinds of things could break and cost you big money right off the bat! next thing you know, you have invested over 20k cash into a truck worth nothing.
go use your money for a down payment and buy something nice. make a payment and live with it for a long time.
better then paying 500-1000 every month to fix things just to keep it on the road.

 

Yeah it would really suck to sink $20,000 or $30,000 into a heap like that only to come to the realization that maybe this gig wasn't all OP figured it was cracked up to be. I have invested a pile into my own heap lol but I have been doing this for years and expect to continue on doing so for many more years.

But everything is a risk and maybe that truck really is better than it appears. I have to say though there is a '99 FLD freightliner (and flatbed) with a 3406E in the classifieds section here from a retiring driver for cheap that from the looks of the photos has been kept up. The pics from under the hood remind me of my own truck which I know is kept up.

 

Too many tangibles to give you a honest answer. I see that your are from NJ, so I would want to see a emissions report on the unit before I even considered buying it. It could end up costing you some serious money to get it within the NJ standards before you get to pull your first load with it.

But on the flip side, ........there are a lot of FLD's around , so I wouldn't worry about that too much when it comes to replacing cab pieces, and other proprietary parts

Container O/O's jump all over these older FLD's in my area because of the parts availability. I would offer him 8-10K for it............ if the engine and driveline are as solid as he says it is.

This is the kind of truck that would be a dream for local/regional hauling if the owner knew how to do most of his own wrenching. I can think of 5-6 guys that I know that run a older FLD, and they take care of about 90% of their repair work themselves.

 

Looks are not important. If you saw some of the container O/O's trucks in my area, you would crap your pants.

Some of them look like death warmed over, but are very well maintained & safe.

Paint jobs are just eye candy, it's the power plant and driveline that pay the bills.

Im orginaly from philly. So i know what you mean. How ever, if you operate a truck like that you become a DOT magnet
