Does anyone know how much the fine might be for an out of state truck running in California? I know its serious for trucks with California plates. I plan to only go there once in a blue moon, but when I do go, I won't have a Carb compliant truck.

usually $500 per vehicle(tractor+ trailer combination) per day ...so it could be from $1000 to $1500 . the bad ones write second ticket for having not aerodynamic trailer.

You are allowed into the state once or twice a year with a non dpf truck. But you will need to get hold of carb for the details. At least that's what I understand.
