Hmm, not sure about that either. The volvo has pretty crazy pulling power down to about 1000 rpm.
Both are good power motors but the ISX definitely had some major design flaws, like the 500k mi+ rod pitching issue with block design interference.
D13 or ISX15

With ISX, it's only prior to 2013. After that, they started improving those engines.

Yep. But the engine load on that 900hp marine engine is nothing compared to the load even a 300hp engine sees. Throw a 900 horse flash into a D13 in a Volvo and watch the parts go flying. LOL I bet someone has tried it.poppapump1332 Thanks this.

Actually, Marine motors operate at a much higher steady state load than a road tractor engine, you actually have it opposite.
You can't usually put a road engine in marine application because the load is too high.
Marine motors are built to a heavier strength than most any other applications. -
Not what the folks at CAT have to say about the c13. It's nearly identical in truck, heavy equipment and marine applications. If it were built stronger or "heavier strength", why would you not use that engine for all 3? Yeah, marine engines are under a more constant load. But never hit the numbers a road motor does trying to move 80k. This, again, is what CAT had to say on the matter
-
Lol, no kidding, you're making my point.
The C13 is a heavy built motor to carry the ability to be used in a marine application where CONSTANT load states of 70% or higher can exist for long periods.
No offense but you need to learn a little more about marine motors and the load state rating methodology. Hint, you'll find that there are several in Marine apps but all are rated for sustained periods at those loads.
Road tractors operate most of their lifespan at load states under 50% , with short durations at higher states.....many have a large % at idle loads under 5% of engine power rating.
A boat is always pushing water at cruise and never escapes the high load levels.
Try riding your bike on pavement and then jump in a foot peddle boat and tell me which is easier. LOL.... -
I would not touch ANY engine from 2008-12 I had an 11 DD15 it was a night mare. I have a13 780 D13 I shift and no hassles, one piston cooler sensor is it as far as engine. Fuel tanks corroded badly under the straps, that's the biggest problem with the truck so far, I'm dealing with that this week. Other than that not too many complaints about the truck.

I have a 2016 lone star with 550hp isx ungoverned with nearly 80k I pass whatever I want I do my oil and all filters every 15-20k since it was new I prefer the cummins myself
Frenchfryguy and russtrucker Thank this. -
I was thinking the same, but I heard the 2012 models were not so bad. I am in the middle of a purchase of a 2012 D13 myself and from what other drivers are telling me, the real nightmare was 08-11.

Problem with a 12 is some were built early 11 my 13 was built June 12. I'd be checking build date for sure.
