I live in RI and have been hit up by the recruiter for Schneider. Ive read several of the threads here for people on the Choice program. It does sound like something I eventually want to pursue.
My question is how is the freight for Schneider getting in and out of New England? Being from RI and RI being so small means Im an hour from Boston and about 1.5 hours from the Hartford and New Haven. With Choice and me picking my own loads Im concerned about finding freight to get me close to home or to leave from home.
Thanks in advance,
Will
Any IC Choice drivers from the Southern New England Area?

Ask sadwar ...he's in NY...
cdsc1416 Thanks this. -
If you drive like a maniac, they will hire... Lots and lots of water loads, in the NE. If you can swim, you will do fine.

Lots of loads in MA, CT, RI, and some in ME. I see some local stuff around Boston, eastern MA all the time.
Great rates into those areas from pretty much everywhere else, not so good rates to leave that area....
Water loads from ME pay pretty good sometimes to get over to NY state..
Anything else, just ask ..

Thanks Sadwar, As a company driver can you see the loadboard? Or is that only when you become an IC? Im guessing you have to be an IC. Also, Is 6 months enough time to learn Schneiders culture, freight lanes, ect?
Thanks again,
Will -
Are you already an experienced driver or looking for your first trucking job?
Dinomite Thanks this. -
Correct. You only see the load board when you are an IC.
Do you have prior driving experience or is Schneider your first driving job?

No experience but thinking long term. I know I know "this guy needs to learn about trucking first". I have been considering flat bedding and trying to get hired by the likes of TMC. But having read both of your threads (DFO/Sadwar) I like the freedom of the load board and picking where you want to run. Im doing more homework on Schneider as a company driver first and whether to go OTR or Regional.
I do want to have my own truck someday.
A little about me, even though you didnt ask ha ha, Im 45 and getting ready to retire from the Army Reserve. I have 2 deployments and Uncle Sam is going to pay for my CDL. Im also getting ready to pull the plug on Law Enforcement. After 14 years I am cooked and my time overseas has left me with no patients to deal with the public on a daily face to face basis. Not to mention Police arent very popular now....well we never were lol but at least people called me an A-hole under their breath.
So Im doing my homework and trying to gather as much info as possible. Speaking directly with drivers is the best research imho.
Thanks all,

Dinomite, drvrtech77 and mickeyrat Thank this.
