Better than Western! When hubby left for orientation he was told $.36 a mile. When he quit he then told me he was only getting $.31 a mile! 2000 miles a week would have been nice! Had he worked long enough to get the insurance we would have gotten just enough for bills, foods & gas (for our 1 personal vehicle), & we don't have rent or a mortgage payment!

Well i have and wont say on the forums (to many horror stories) lets just say if you ever bought any plumbing supplies from anywhere, chances are my company was involved whether you knew it or not.

You will pay taxes out of it either way - if you're a W4 employee, they will payroll deduct the taxes each pay period. If you're 1099, you get to mail the IRS a big check every April (so you better be putting 10 to 15% back in a savings account to have available).

Way more than 15% is needed. The required OSDAI and Medicare payments alone is 15.3%. More like 40%.
Plus quarterly payments are often required instead of just in April. -
Swift told us they have a program where they hold back so much of your pay and add it back after rest is taxed that way you have more take home pay.

That's called "Per-Diem", and has been discussed MANY times on this site. Anyone that falls for it, get's what they get.
As far as taxes go...in Iowa, claiming Zero dependents on both Federal and State W4's...I have never paid more than 21%...and the average is more like 17.5%
1099 employment taxes are gonna be quite a bit higher, because you are paying both YOUR income taxes (as with W4 deductions)...and the companies share that they WOULD be paying were you a W2 employee---this is why most people here tell others to avoid 1099 employers like the plague---the guy that owns the truck is paying NOTHING towards Social Security and Workmans Comp.
If you run 1099, you would be crazy to not put ATLEAST 33.3% of your check away...because Uncle Sam is gonna want every dime of it. And if you only put 33.3% away, you BETTER save every single recite for expenses (even if you buy a 10 cent pencil)...and claim ALL per-diem at the end of the year...and you MIGHT be able to pay your taxes. -
Dont forget the $48 per diem,subtracted from gross wages,every day out.
