My OO quit me on a Wednesday and was leased to a neighbor on Thursdayand together they're attempting to backdoor a bunch of my freight. I guess let them. What goes around comes around. I'm just not sure how I'm going to handle this little situation. Oh and he quit in a text message. What a #####.
Hard to find good brokers or any broker!!!

I'm hard pressed to come up with a "business" solution to problems like these.
I had someone I know recently try to snake a bunch of gravy work I do. Still don't have a professional way to handle it in mind.
Lots of this and any business involves "this is business" type decisions: some are awfully hard not to take personally.SheepDog Thanks this. -
You just got to trust your reputation. That's why you got where you are. If a customer is going to leave you for your employee, he will relize eventually what you bring to the table
And if not, maybe your employee was a better fit for him. But 9 times out of 10, he will come back to you and be even more loyal in the long run. Once that happens, you can increase your rate to a healthy margin. -
A lowlife move. Usually once a person becomes a lowlife, they began an inevitable slide to the gutter.
Met a driver that was a lease operator at my company. He did an outside lease purchase deal from one of those buy-here-pay-here places (A smart move IMO) to get out of the glorified company driver position he was in. Moved up the ranks, was just about ready to pull blades when the grass got greener on the other side of the fence. Took a medical leave of absense, but secretly signed on with Another Crrier. My company found out and they were pissed. He started doing that LTL stuff but he wasn't the Wizard, and lost his arse. He started having to rob Peter to pay Paul. Took a medical leave from Another Carrier and secretly signed on with another company to get their sign on bonus. Another Carrier found out and they were pissed. Got behind on his truck payment and the guy who had the title forced him to put his truck on with JB Hunt. He called me hungry and needing money, so I tried to help him by giving him $600 for an open headache rack. He took my money and sold the rack to someone else for $400. He promised that when he got on his feet, he would give me my money back.
He tried to come back here, they told him no go. He tried to go back to Another, they told him no go.
He lost his truck. He asked a mutual friend if he could run his spare truck. The friend said, "Hell no! I heard about you ripping off Six."
Last I heard, he got a job pulling for one of those slumlord gigs where some guy's wife had the fuel and money micromanaged so tightly that you can't idle your truck and have enough fuel to make delivery. Stuck out on the road, and cant go home and cant afford a bus ticket.
Saw him at the TA in Laredo in 2011. He was looking at the ramen noodles and I went into the restaurant to sit and sip ice tea and listen to war stories. He promised to pay me back when he gets back on his feet, and I told him that I would hold my breath.
Anyway, next time have your owner ops sign a contract that they will not go after your customer base for at least 5 years or they will agree to pay you $250k.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -

I saw a video on Youtube a while back. There was a truckers wife and she was talking with the guy trying to document coal haulers in Ky.
She said that if 2 truckers went into a house of prostitution, they would end up coming out screwing each other.
I thought about that,.. and came to think that this is pretty much how the entire US does business. Always looking for a way to under cut the next guy and save a few dollars no matter who it hurts.
As a flat bed hauler,.. I have taken equipment out of more business that are either closing plants down or simply just moving over seas than I have to actual new business sites bringing equipment in.
Back in the early 90's seemed all I did was haul things for new plants and sites. Now I'm helping to dismantle them.
Hurstblairandgretchen and Boardhauler Thank this. -
I seem to run into those who talk about all this work, yet have no show for it come time for work. I am leased to company with 2 trucks and do well, but I'm just looking to make the real bucks with my authority.
I am beginning to believing in Santa and the Easter Bunny believe it or not! haha -
