Ah; as a team I plan to be down less then 10 hours a day, preferably 0 hours a day. Hasn't worked out that way all the time though, but I try to only idle when its hot enough to warrant it. It has to be pretty darn cold for me to idle in cold weather though. I have alot of blankets and cats to keep me warm. Though we got alot of loads that had 'idle at all times' on them. Beer loads. Really wouldn't be cheaper to run a reefer for that?

Personally I wouldn't quit a CO just because they turned down your truck. Look at it this way, I would rather go a little slower, in hopes of saving fuel, than running insane speeds and maybe loosing my job. Our co turned ours down from 72 to 60 I can't complain because at least I'm still working.
-
yea, but you catch 280/231 out of b'ham at the wrong time and....
-
I would have to agree. I haven't read too awfully much bad on PAM here, and what he described were some good qualities, at least to me. I can't stand micro-management.
-
I haven't either, and micro management, is what kills a company.
-
That is all nice but if the company does not want you idling they should do something for us my company does not pay for idle air and said they are not getting apus for the trucks they let us idle I my self will not set in a hot ### truck when I am out there running 3000 miles a week staying out 4 to 5 weeks at a time from home the price of fuel is not putting that big of a crunch on the big companys yet they are passing the cost on down the line I see it every day. So idle guys and girl do not work your ### off out there in the heat away from home like that. Stay cool out there or fined a company that will let you idle It is for you safty.
-
Too many know it all drivers, like you whine about idling too much. Let's see you sit in Laredo at 90 plus degrees without the truck idling and the A/C on. We all know the company is out to make money, but what about the people who actually make the company money (the drivers)?
As for the slower speeds, thats something we all have to deal with. Many companies are slowing down their trucks. Swift, FFE, Lisa Motor Lines, American Eagle Lines all just dropped their speed to 60. -
Of course they are. I see 38% fuel surcharges on my deliveries every day.
-
I always enjoy watching "part" of a team jump into the "save money" for the company by turning your truck off thread.
Have some of you guys been doing this so long, you have forgotten how hot the interior of a truck can get without an A/C ??
Botttom line: If companies were serious about saving fuel. They would buy APU's. If they don't, they are CHEAP...end of story. And deserve to lose money. -
COMMON SENSE tells me, that if I'm sitting in Laredo, at 90+ degrees, I'm going to idle with the A/C on. COMMON SENSE also tells me that if it's 70 degrees outside, in Grand Rapids,Michigan, I'll shut the truck off, and roll down the windows. COMMON SENSE also tells me I'll shut the truck down, if I'm hanging out inside the truckstop for 2 hrs, or if I'm fueling, or waiting at a dock to get unloaded, unless it's unbearably hot, or cold.
I've seen a lot of trucks at one of my customers, on a nice day, where they back inside the building, idleing away at the dock. Why? Because the driver has no COMMON SENSE. Filling the building with diesel exhaust.
makes no sense.....
