Most of the big race hauler drivers are part of the pit crew..Bunch of em are front left tire jackmen (the easiest job)...
John Force was only a truck driver!!! Now a huge race champion his driver now is also the fuel guy...

So, I would think 75% is all family/friend hook ups...

    Concerts/Entertainment usually use union drivers...

When I was younger, some guy stole def leppards 53 footer and the concert was cancelled....trailer was found on mexican border

I never got to the pay part with them. I do know that driving is only part of it, they haul all the teams equipment, tool boxes, tires and rims, etc.The driver has to unload and place the teams stuff in the garage and on pit road. One of the VP's, or he may have been the owner, made the offer, even after I told him I had not drove in over 10 years. I park cars in the infield at Charlotte during the races, and I made this guy turn his big pickup truck around and park in a tight spot. He told me he could do that because he has a CDL. I responded, yea, I have one of them too, that's when he made his offer.

One of my techs used to work for the company that had the contract before Champion. I checked with him and he said they were a pretty good company, he was just tired of traveling all the time. I think he would have taken a pay cut but he would not come out and say so. In any case I still had a daughter at home and was not ready to go back on the road.

The best job (so I hear) is a coach driver for a cup guy/gal.....

Drive coach from track to track. Clean it , fill/empty tanks and stock it with groceries ....

Stay at hotel on the weekend with the towed pick-up usually.

And you get a hard card.... Full member of the team .

To be fair some guys do other duties too....

Not any more, the crew members are so specialized anymore and with practice, the truck drivers don't have time for it. (Have friends who work in several of the shops.)

Concerts and Entertainment DON'T use union drivers. I did that for 10 years. Not one union driver to be found.

On the Champion deal, let's just say I made the same money in 2000 driving generator truck for Motion Picture and Events on the WCW tour. All I had to do there was drive, maintain the generators and hook up 8 cables and 2 breaker boxes.

I started talking to a guy in the Charlotte airport the only time in my life I'd been back east. It got brought up that I knew how to drive truck, he straight up offered me a job hauling race cars from shops around the south to the Atlanta airport where they go worldwide on planes, after talking to him about a half an hour waiting to board.

It did sound like a pretty #### legit gig. He was definitely big in with the movers and shakers of the racing community. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I were to have took him up on it.

I don't know of any shops in the area that ship race cars worldwide, other than maybe Legends and Bandelaro cars. I know there are a few drag racing shops, and a handful of open wheel racing places in the Charlotte area that may ship cars, or one of the manufactors, TRD and such.

I was contacted once about moving a Mercedes Benz race car, after I found out the specs and it's value, I passed on it, too big of a PIA.
