The trainers responsibility is to teach you everything you don't know, and the correct way to operate your vehicle, maintain the integrity and security of your load, how to utilize the company policies and procedures, give instruction in the different rules and regulations of the different states and regions you will be operating in, and basically to help you become a professional and exceptional driver.
In short....everything he/she doesn't know since his/her trainer didn't know the stuff either!
What are the responsibilities of trainers if any?

I know better and I agree you are right. The thing that kills me is I would have figured it out on my own, but whenever a trainer is present I tend to defer to their judgment and this has hurt me. First when I expressed a need to pull over and stop driving I would have done so if not for my trainer insisting me to keep driving, and 2 when I asked my trainer's help with choosing a correct lane and he did not make any effort assist me. Finally when the cop asked my trainer about this he lied and said he was sleeping. I'm not looking for an argument about my failures as a student fresh out of trucking school. I just want to know if trainers have any formally recognized responsibilities or ethics to abide by, like for example how teachers in a school might have certain responsibilities towards answering to their students.
Should I bring this information to a lawyer? I womder would the police officer have written me this ticket if he had known the truth: That my trainer had in fact not "just woke up", but had been sitting beside me, ignoring my verbal questions about which lane to use? -
Don't bother with the lawyer and I'm not trying to kick you when you're down. Most trainers take advantage of the trainees and use them as cash cows for team driving. They usually get paid whatever miles you run + theirs. It wouldn't hurt to report the crap trainer you have to the company. HR needs to know about an employee acting like a jack*** to another employee
Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
A lawyer is a waste of time and money...wouldn't get you anywhere anyway. You do need to report this to the training department at your company and get assigned to a trainer that might actually know something about teaching.....and about trucking!
Almost afraid to ask...but what company? -
Epes transport Greensboro NC
No team training allowed and if the logs reflect more miles than a top performing single would make the trainer is stripped of his training privileges. It's pretty obvious what's happening if that occurs. They take it seriously. As a result they have some good trainers.
I was with them 3 years. Trained the last year I was there.bottomdumpin, RicoNC and pattyj Thank this. -
Just my 2 cents.. beware that everyone I have known, heard about and even myself have been "released" during the time "they are looking for a replacement trainer". They normally do not call you again. I believe these companies are scared of more lawsuits so they get you out asap.

That's how every company should be and since FMCSA supposedly is all about safety, they should make it into law.bottomdumpin Thanks this.

But how would CR England operate if they can't shove 4 student drivers in a truck?G.Anthony, Toomanybikes and Straight Stacks Thank this.

TransAm trucking allows you to train others after you are with them 90 days. Its sort of a case of the blind leading the blind. TransAm has a few experienced trainers with over a year experience but the majority I talked with had around 6 months or less.

They actually do that?
