Well let me introduce myself. My name is Trent I live in south east Iowa. I am young being 21 (probably the youngest at the company I'm getting onto). I've held a many of jobs doing anything from cleaning business, houses and my last job grinding parts at a iron foundry. Once the heat got to me twice taking me down hard I resigned and wound up with an offer from the new school bus contractor. Got my class b permit with endorsements yesterday so all is well there.
So what brings a school bus driver to a trucking page? Well honestly long term I would love to possibly upgrade to class A if need be plus w/e I need for endorsements. With my job history being so long just not sure if I'd be able to find a willing company. Pretty much just looking to find out what most of the companies in the market for drivers look for. Most of my job history is built up from working 2-3 jobs at once after my son was born. Literally I'd pull 16 hours day between factory work and cleaning utility companies.

Good luck to you. I think you'll do great.

Don't know much about Iowa brother but I would explore more into maybe rock hauling (straight truck) or concrete (I haul concrete), pay is good and depending I where you are you could make a good living off of it. Best of luck to you and God bless

Heard that some school bus drivers hauling rock in the summer and make a good killing off of it. Seen lots of CL ads for SD hauling during summer few locals around here hire as well.

Go for it. Apply at any and all companies that are hiring. Be straight forward and honest with them. I wish you the best!

Will do. Plan on doing my training and such with contractor before going into hauling jobs. Wonnna do at least six months or a full school year to show dedication. Who knows maybe I'll be able to find something PT with Speedi and get my rep built back up.
PhantomExpress Thanks this. -

Don Hummer Trucking in Oxford, IA hires at 21 yrs. old.
Pretty good pay scale on the website.
You will need a CDL school first, but contact them anyway and ask. Maybe a CDL school with weekend classes or the state unemployment office may have funding to pay for full time school. -
Will be upgrading my permit to actual license through bus company or will I need actual trucking school to upgrade to big rig with most companies? Oxford is about 1 1/2 away from were I am at, always willing to drive for good pay.
