Still need a TNT? My first student is a trainer and is looking for a trainee, as am I, actually. We are both in Springfield at the moment.

Hello All!
Just to get it out there, I am a newbie and I start school tommo morning.
I have been looking at the different companies to apply to and Im seeing a common gripe that i am really confused on.
I keep hearing about how professional you need to be during training as these are all upstanding companies and if you are not professional and neatly dressed they will put your ### on the curb. But i am also seeing how a few people get stuck with Trainers that are not professional, not clean, not AWAKE, not well dressed, etc... They stress to us that it is their truck (which I understand) and we are basically intruding into their home and time no matter how unclean it is.
So my questions are:
1. Why are they still employed? Why are they trainers? I would think that these upstanding companies want the best of the best (to include clean and professional) out training all of these new people that will be soon representing their company. Do these trainers have to pass an inspection and test to train someone ( I assume they are getting extra money from what i have been reading)? Why Not??
2. What does it say about that company that they make threats about hoe you need to look and act during training but have these Drivers as Trainers.
All of this is just my opinion but i would like to hear thoughts to help me decide who to apply to.
Thanks. -
If you are lease operator, two things, the company wants you around to continue to make that payment, and you aren't an employee per se. so you can run a disgusting ship and be a prick to the companies employees.
I asked specifically for a company driver for TNT and was told there were basically none. They had not much incentive to TNT. I know once I go company, I'm not going to train. If I were a lease operator, I don't know how I'd make my payments if I didn't. I did have a company driver for PSD. Since the company driver is more closely monitored and not under water in truck payments he can be more focused on the task at hand, training you.
The modus operandi of your lease instructor and how professionally he handles it will vary greatly.
Don't let them scare you. Look at the sloppy filth on the yard. With drivers in high demand, you'll get to stay. You don't even have to be too bright upstairs either.
I'm starting my third week TNT. Seems like it'll never end. On my second TNT instructor. My first was, the worst. It was a crying shame. The guy I'm with now, it's like night and day. Both lease operators.
So, YMMV, and you are valuable as a person and employee. Everyone is making money off of you, but you'll be told you are the main beneficiary. Don't forget it's mutual. The only thing not in your favor is the glut of PSD students. You just have to stand out amongst them. If you are a good student, professional, you'll get out of this what you put in. I know I am.

Throwing in my 3 cents' worth (allowing for inflation)...
1 - The reason you need to be clean and presentable is because you are on a very long job interview. Until you are issued your own truck, you are not a full employee. Your instructor/trainer has a job; you don't.
2 - The companies do have standards for the trainers. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to enforce. If the truck floor is covered with food wrappers, and urine bottles stashed under the seat, by all means report the trainer and request a new one.
3 - Nobody is threatening you regarding how you dress. As long as you follow the company dress code (which all drivers must do), then you'll be fine. See #1 for the reason that you want to dress a bit above the minimum. -
You are a 'full employee' after you get your cdl and put on payroll.
