I would not want to be monitored 24/7, although it is getting to that point with the government. I guess you don't miss what you never had in the first place. When I started, drivers would usually not speak with their company until they got their load off unless they broke down or needed more money. My, oh my, things have certainly changed. More and more people seem to embrace being monitored 24/7.

This new generation of kids put their entire life out there...posting their every thought and every move to twitter/facebook/instagram/etc. for the world (or the few pathetic people "following" them) to see...not to mention documenting every stupid thing they do on youtube. Hell, how many crimes have the police solved using "social media" to not only discover a crime has occurred, but also to view it happening and identify the perpetrators? When a generation of individuals willingly posts the intimate details of their life onto the internet, it doesn't surprise me in the least bit that they see no problem with living their life in front of yet another camera.

Remember, the cameras over the register at the convenience store aren't there to help the cashier be better or more accurate...it is there to catch somebody doing something wrong and to assist with criminal prosecution in such cases. Traffic cameras aren't there to give commendations to those who obey the speed limit and stop at red lights...they are there to catch and prosecute those who slip up. Driver cams are the same. They aren't there to help you to be a better driver, but rather to be used against you in justifying why you need to be terminated. Even if you are 99.999% perfect in what you do behind the wheel, since drivers make more than 200 decisions during every mile traveled (https://www.osha.gov/Publications/motor_vehicle_guide.html), if you drive 2500 miles per week you are making around 500,000 driving related decisions every week. At 99.999% accuracy, you still make a wrong choice 5 times per week. That is 5 opportunities EVERY WEEK for a nearly perfect driver to be fired "for cause" (meaning ineligible for unemployment and a huge black mark on your employment history making it difficult to get another job) because of these driver-facing cameras. What do you suppose a prospective employer is going to do when they see "terminated for cause - unsafe driving" on your DAC...and you can't fight it, because THEY HAVE VIDEO PROOF! Nobody will see the 499,995 proper decisions you made every week...only the 5 bad ones.

Only a fool would agree to operate in that environment.

Wow Bulldog, thats an awesome point to all of the debate on the Driver Facing Cameras. Well put with the statistics, never knew them before. I am currently in school for my CDL and i brought it up today with the group in my truck. I was under the same point of not wanting to apply to a company that has driver facing cameras for the same reasons, just didnt have the dtat to back it up!!
