I valued your documentation. I want to be independent too. Some I talk with make convincing claims to make a lot of money, others say it's a struggle. You seem pretty sharp but your not getting rich (yet). Do you believe it's just a matter of perseverance or are you having any doubts?

You need to look around more. 50 cpm is not uncommon for experienced drivers in the MidWest. Magnum is one - I read mostly good things about them. And of course there is LTL; that often pays over 60 cpm plus accessorials - and you can be home daily, but that's city hustling and long hours, while I'm a bit hooked on the lazy, country driving.
You must have worked for K&B in the past to have such definite opinions. Sorry you had a bad experience. It's probably improved since you were there. Lot's of "mid-range" companies have gotten better due to competition.icsheeple Thanks this. -
It's a bad year for everyone. I think what's made me successful was a cheap, reliable truck. I've ran about 30k miles this year. Just soaking it all in. I do my own PM's and no family or mortgage. My rent is cheap at the house I rent, and I'm pretty frugal. My advice to anyone is wait and see what the market will do for now. Buy a cheap truck, there is always going to be someone out there giving a truck away, you just have to look.
I'm on a dedicated run now where I leave the house for three days a week and clear $800. Some weeks I double down and run two, gone six days and clear $1600. Certainly not getting rich, but I'm not starving.
My buddy's brother just let his truck go for what he owed($10k) I couldn't believe it. He should have called me but he wanted to yank containers for an hourly wage instead I guess. The stress of maintenance and self dispatch can build, but I can't go back to OTR for a company spending more days in a truck than my home.truckon Thanks this. -
Is the industry down? Maybe I'm in a bubble and haven't noticed. Still, if you are saying that you are getting $800 after expenses for three days - that doesn't sound bad at all. Is your truck already paid for?
I will remember your input about getting a cheap truck. I had it in my head that you gotta spend at least $60K to get started - not so? First though, I think I'll have to do some serious studying about maintenance and repair. I can turn a wrench but the hard part of course is knowing what exactly needs to be fixed.

]No I've never worked for them. There is just a lot of drivers at my company that have. Glad that it works for you I couldn't take there micromanagement. But Im very independent and on top of my game. ( A lot of drivers not so much ) Im just saying drivers who are looking at K&B do your research so you know what your getting into.Yes a lot of mid sized companies have changed. Some for the better. Some for the worse.
