Just curious...what do you plan on hauling and putting over the hood that you are that worried about trying to gain another 1.25"? I run a 295/75/22.5 steer (275/80/22.5 in Michelin) in the 16 ply version which is good for 14100 lbs and can put most any SUV or minivan over the hood strapped. The only thing that doesn't go over my hood is a full size pickup but not that I want one up there anyhow.

If you look at some of the newest Volvo's at BGK and look at the rear tractor axle, you will notice an oil hub. This is a dead axle, meaning this rig doesn't have a power divider since it is a "single drive". Not a single axle, but a single drive with a non lift able tag axle on the rear. Approximately 500 lbs in weight savings to compensate for all the extra wt of the new engine. It is similar to the old Cooper rigs with a lift able front axle, just the new ones don't lift and its on the rear and not the front.

I haul 4 pickups across the top routinely. It's also a 4 car headrack and not really an issue most of the time, but there are a few bridges here and there that I routinely use that are 13'9 on the main roads and I wanted to be as low as safely practical. I am a creature of habit and the 19.5's worked well for me, so that's why I was planning to use them. I am sure the 22.5's that I am getting will be fine. The Michelin coming on this rig is rated for 14,600. May not ever be that heavy on the steers but it's there if you need it.

Just a #### shame, (and really stupid move if you ask me) that Freightliner didn't keep the Sterling AH as an independent model just for AH, I loved my Sterlings and they were impossible to beat for packaging.

On another note, I did park next to a brand new Volvo AH 430 with the stub nose and lowered cab, #### nice rig!!!

Miller had the same problem with the first few 04's or whenever they redesigned their 7 car. The number 4 deck would flex due to the longer length(of that deck) compared to the old design. They had to cut it in half & added a slight arch in the center of it. That arch beefed it up enough to not flex. Never thought about it being an issue on the SV, but they have a long straight span with that 8 car.

Yeah that upper deck is long, even thou they do use about a 3x7 rail tube, you have to remember those Dodge p/u are heavy, esp if diesel, we have a customer that ships nothing but 2500 Dodge diesel CC they come in full of fuel at just OVER 7500.

Kansas those new Volvos are the best carcarriers I have driven yet. Was very quiet and rode like a car. At 6'3 my knees weren't on the dashboard like they are in the older Volvos.

Like others have said. I've used my straps like chains. I ordered straps without tread grabbers and have the swivel j hooks.
