How many miles do you put on your steers?

I thought bad shocks cause this type of wear.

 

What brand & ply do you use?
What is your psi?

 

What brand of tires?
what psi you keep them at?
How heavy are you on the steer on average?

 

I realize that this is a 4 year old thread but post #9 and post # 16 mention "G" rated tires as being 16 ply.
They are not. They are 14 ply.
16 ply are "H".

 

At the time I posted that I ran Michelin XZA3's at 100 psi.

 

Just got new steer tires yesterday. The old tires had about 236,000 miles on them and I got $150 each for them from the dealer. Both old and new tires are Michelin XZA3+ usually at 105 PSI. I rarely go over 11,700 lb on the steer axle.

 

Hell ya that's the only set of steers I'll run love these tires pulled a set off last month had 260k on them, one was chewed up from and alignment issue from some front end work and the other still had another 50k left on it easy

I got my 5th wheel set so I only ever have 11k on the front so that probably makes a differenceand I max them out 115psi.

We had the same problem. We just had front kingpin done and alignment. Put centramatic on. Had steer rebalanced.

Then we stretched wb 292. Finally change the steer. Purchased new xza3 $1350.00 at Love's. That was the cheapest in our area. Left to deliver a load about 80miles away. Found the tire were showing sign of cupping. Same as before cupping outside passenger inside driver side. We had them rebalanced and re- align steer & drives. It isn't getting worse but the trailer is doglegging and strangely enough it was not showing before all this. But it is showing now. So we will do an alignment on trailer soon & I think it needs new bushings. However our new steer are stable ....not showing any more cupping. And we removed the centramatic...we will try them again at a later date and report on that.
