So if I go down to the Secretary of State and self certify myself as interstate, and I have dot medical card for intrastate only am I legal to drive intrastate. Or do I have to self certify intrastate??

    Thanks

you go to your DMV, not the secretary of state.

if you are intra state, you certify for that.

if you go inter state, you certify for that.

well, here in Illinois they are called Secretary of State Drivers Facility.

the company I work for I get 40 hours intrastate that's why I have dot med card for intrastate. local position.

I would like to get a p/t time job where I can drive interstate via a linehaul position one day a week. but when I went to the dmv they were not very helpful and said if I self certify interstate I have to show them a dot med card for interstate. Not hired yet and don't have a different medical card and not sure I want the job unless I can drive linehaul.

maybe im just overthinking this but if I self certify interstate is my intrastate dot med card still valid?? not quite sure why they want you to self certify?? if you have a med card one would think that would be good enough.

If you certify Interstate, you can drive both Inter and Intrastate. If you only certify Intra, you have to stay in state.

It can be confusing with getting certified but you must do it correctly otherwise it could mean a nice fine. The DMV will help you check the correct box.

self certify as INTER STATE, that way you can cross state lines with no worries. just be sure each time you get a new DOT card, you go back and self certify again. you have to self certify each time you get a new DOT card.

and for the record, here, it is the DMV that takes care of our licenses. Our secretary of state has way too many more important things to do than to have dirty, smelly, ignorant, truckers clog up the nice pretty offices. so we all get to go to the DMV with all the other dirty, smelly, ignorant people....
