I believe the rule is even if you have type 2 but are still on insulin shots, you can't drive. And I also heard if you're over 200 you must now have an A1C. While you're waiting, why not try to get your numbers down?

Incorrect! I am a type 2 and successfully received the exemption and my numbers usually hover around 200 mg/dl + or -. My A1C did not affect the decision process as it was well above 8%.

That would be considered discrimination if you have a federal medical waiver.

If at all possible, try to get off of the insulin.
In ADDITION to following your doctor's instructions, try to do or amp up on these suggestions, as shown.
    1) Try to do more stretching and cardiovascular exercises. A really good coach or physical fitness trainer can help you with this.
    2) Try to eliminate cakes, pastries, soda, candies, chocolates, fruit juices, sugars, and alcoholic beverages from your diet.
    3) Try to eliminate fats and greases from your diet. The healthiest cooking oils would be either canola oil or olive oil. If you buy ground beef or turkey, try to get a MINIMUM of 90% or more of the "fat free" brands.
    4) Try to drink as much clean water as possible to flush out your system.
    5) Try to eat as many varieties of vegetables as possible: avocados, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, garlic, onions, parsley, parsnips, peppers, radishes, rhubarb, scallions, spinach, squash, tomatoes, turnips, etc..
    6) Try to include 1 to 2 fresh squeezed lemons a day to put into teas or just plain cold water, stir & drink. This will help with colds, sinuses, along with helping to flush out your system.

    Good luck to you!
God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!
