I can see your point on the bonus thing. Our thought is that the bonus is based on fuel economy. If you drive right and we save fuel, we give you an additional $$ for the savings. Just simple cut and dried, to show our appreciation for helping us cut our fuel cost. We also realize that the typical system is that if you are paid by the mile (which we pay all miles driven) and you are slowing down to increase fuel economy it could reduce your miles driven per day a little, so our system is a bump in PPM is your MPG's are above a set benchmark.

I knew someone who ran an independent motel that said when a customer takes the towels from the room, they just lost most of the profit on that room for the night.

We tried the percentage thing as well. The issue is that the drivers would get upset if the load would have paid better by the mile. Sometimes losing money on a load is just part of the game and it happens from time to time.. It was like I could never satisfy them for some reason.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.

Think about this. Maybe there is an owner op he has dealt with for years. The service manager sees that he takes pride in his truck, keeps the interior neat as a pin, and does some of his own light mechanical work. Maybe his paid for Pete just had a catastrophic engine failure, and he is in a perfect position to be done with the headaches of doing the administrative parts, but is a real lifestyle OTR driver. That driver could be standing at his counter next week looking at borrowing money to get his truck back on the road, or maybe he is standing there right now. Also, that driver is used to buying his own benefits.
Here is what you could do. Go talk to the service manager. Tell him you will give him a $100 dollar bill to go to lunch with you. Take him out to lunch, and explain to him what you are looking for. Tell him there will be a few more of those $100 dollar bills if he identifies a successful candidate for you.
I think the key here is to find the driver with the characteristics you are seeking, then you approach him/her. Not the other way around. Get creative in finding what you want. Obviously, conventional methods are not working.Billerd Thanks this. -
When I run 3300 per week I dont even have time to clean my own truck, but you expect a driver to do that? When I dont come home for the weekend, which is also the time I run out of homemade food, I start feeling miserable, dirty and unmotivated. Money still push me, but I would not do these runs for the drivers pay. There are many companies who get you home every weekend and still pay good.Living in a box for 3 weeks in a row, spending $30 per day on gross fast food, getting fat and unhealthy, fcuk long haul, thats all I can say

Actually, the idea would be that you don't let the inside of your truck get dirty. If you put everything away as you use it, your truck should stay neat inside. Take 5 min a day to run a rag over your windows and dash etc. That's all, not looking for a professional detailer, and the truck wash does the outside for you.

Maybe these will work. Most probably, neither is for you. The first gal has not done flatbed (she is psychologically #### tough, though), and the second does, (she looks like a tough little gal) but she keeps a cat and her cab/sleeper and is a little messy. Look at the incredible amount of information you can learn about these drivers from there videos. You see what there attitude is, how they keep their trucks, there driving habits and on and on. Maybe neither fits what you are looking for, the point is that many other drivers post, and you can research them without them knowing. If you find a driver you like from their videos, you can approach them, not the other way around!
