We used to do Kraft foods, cookie loads from Chicago to Denver, nightly train runs. Typically 3 cans per night. all had to be dropped before receiving arrived at 4 am. I would start between 1:30 and 2 am, have all 3 dropped, the final empty from the previous day returned, and waiting for the receiver to arrive and sign my bills at 4am. Until he got a stamp, then all I had to do was stamp the POD's and be on to something else by 3:30 am. Usually I would be heading out of town. Lately there hasn't been much early freight, so I'm starting at 6 am, I hate it, I like starting between 2:30 and 3 am, I can get so much more done, and by the time rush hour starts, I feel like I've accomplished something.
Is it possible to make good money hauling containers (intermodal)?

Hauling containers doing intermodel is very lucrative. Well from what I've seen so far at least. The drivers at the company I work for just run to the port and back. About a 20 minute ride each way and then time at the port. Average about an hour & 1/2 turn around. Home every day and off weekends. They bring home over 1000$ a week.

That is company driver. No where did I say o/o in there. Got two guys that do o/o and they make pretty decent. Doesn't matter what I'd say they make you'd just say it's garbage anyway. But wtf 1700$ a week and home every day. One even has his truck paid off. Still garbage money? Didn't think so. Now read and think before you respond thinking you know it all. I deal with you drivers all day and it makes me realize how bad the industry had gotten. I could start a post and daily update the stupidity of drivers now days. It's embarrassing . Wonder how half are even driving. Hmmm that's a thought, think I will start a thread and show on and shipper receiver view of point on drivers. Things we deal with.

It's all about having a profit goal weekly for example due to me spending a lot of time off the road due to my military commitments my goal went from a modest 1800 to a 2300 a week, my trucks are paid for and my girlfriend makes 100k a year, I only have to pay for my 2 mortgage(i have a weekend home in the poconos),I choose good loads and if I'm not making a profit of 600 a day I'm doing something wrong today i woke up at 4 did a drop and hook, and 2 live loads I was home by 1230 also I spent 75 dollars on fuel, I'm not just a trucker I'm a businessmen in this business complacency puts you in the doghouse work smart not hard

I know O/O's doing intermodal pulling down $5,000/week to the truck, working only 5 days, and I know O/O's doing intermodal pulling down $2,000/week to the truck, it depends on the company, how you're paid, and how busy you are.
