Sorry Otter - I'm borrowing some of your thunder !!
I HAVE done some forum searches on snow tires, and have come up with darn little info !
To the other brokers, owner/operators, and drivers ...... what are you running for winter drives and winter steers ? What is yours, or your companies, experience with them ? Cost ? Wear ratings ? Etc?
I have to buy myself new drives and new steers before snow flies and I'm on the fence about what to get. I own my tractor, and I don't run caps. I have a Volvo 670, O/O spec that weighs 17,500 lbs, and I pull light 30' doubles..
And for those that don't know me, I'm WELL versed in the world of chains ( steers, drives, AND trailer chains !! ).
Thanks

I have never had issues in snow driving and I've had a bunch of different tire brands. I guess what goes a lot further than any brand of tire is experience. And you have proper chaining experience so as long as you don't put yours on wrong and bury a chain link into your tire you're good.
I have very very very bad luck with running over other people's broken chain links and they always stab my tires. Fortunately last few times I was able to remove them without them penetrating too deep. No homo lolAttached Files:
Straight Stacks and Pullin2 Thank this. -

Michelin XDS/XDS2 for drive tires; phenomenal on ice and in snow, surprising good in mud and reasonably long wearing so they were left on year-round. We were heavy; oilfield and OS, so a lot of off-road, but these are very good compromise.

XDN2's have always treated me well in the winter.
Pullin2 Thanks this. -
Thanks guys ....... or gals .......... hard to 'genderize' with user names ! LOL !
How are your mileages with the XDN2's ? I know it's hard to gauge as a company driver ..... because I didn't give a crap either .... as long as the sneaker did the job, I didn't care what court it played on !! just looking for a ball park estimate even !
Do the treads gum up with mud / ice / snow ?
Much appreciated ! Tks. -
One winter a few years back, I needed some drives but I was as broke as a CRE trainee. I had a full set of trailer caps (shallow tread) that I pulled from the shed and threw on. They were the ones with tons of sipes, and I'm here to tell you, on anything but deep, loose snow, you wouldn't believe the traction I had! I had to be very careful about where I stopped, but out on the road they were far better than any lug tread.
Not necessarily a course I'd recommend to anyone, but it worked! -
I'm stuck with Goodyear, Bridgestone and chains.. noway out
