Unless the cust requires the seatbelts to be worn at all times I unbuckle mine as im pulling on their property.Heck most the time I don't even wear my seatbelts in my car.

Hi pattyj, how you been? Oh, you're living dangerously. I thought you had a pickup truck?

I ALWAYS unbuckle when backing - to ensure that I can jump the heck out of the door if something goes really, really wrong.

Seriously, I am buckled anytime I have the truck in gear and in motion unless I'm backing more than just a straight line - in those cases, I want the freedom of movement to keep my head on a swivel.

This is actually a good question, 99% of the time the answer is no. Private property it comes off. If I have to hit a dock off a street or alley, then I leave it on, even though it annoys the piss out of me when trying to look behind me. It would be an easy ticket if Johnny Law saw it.

Careful with doing that if you like to back with the door open, it is an easy way to fall out and run over yourself.

I never open the door. I remember about 15 or 20 years ago when a JB Hunt driver in a cabover had forgotten to close his side box and jumped onto I30 - he saw it flapping in his mirror and thought he could open his door and kick it closed with his leg while doing 60 on I30. He fell out and under the drives and the truck ended up as a crumpled fireball about 200 feet further down the interstate. Because of that one instance - I've never again opened my door with the truck in gear.

I always have my seatbelt on as soon as the blue lights flash. Other than that... I can get on my Yamaha R1 without a helmet and ride 85mph(speed limit permitting) legally here in Tx. Get in a 80000 lb vehicle and I can get a ticket for not being strapped to it. Gimme a break.

The OP needs to ask the safety brigade how to Get Out and Look with his seatbelt on! Maybe their egg-heads will explode!
