Ok got a real world question. I'm in Knoxville Tn. I have 9 hours and 51 mins left on my 70. I have to drive bout 20 miles on 40east live unload (they say bout an hour) then drive 252 miles to Louisville my and drop the rest then make it bout 2 miles to nearest truck stop to reset. Is it possible? If I go off duty will the hours stop or do I have to go to sleeper to make it stop?

On a cursory examination seems like you'll be fine on your 70. Just don't log but minimal time at your drops
DJ Hughes Thanks this. -
Never trust a live load time estimate. Plus knoxville traffic sucks until 10PM

Yes, off-duty will extend your 70 hour total, it does not have to be sleeper (that will also extend your 70 hour clock). Also, yes you will make it with a little time to spare. Also, depending on what you recap looks like you may recover a few hours after midnight (home terminal time). I know they do not teach recap anymore, most drivers just rely on the 34 hour reset, but your 70 hour total is a revolving figure based on your previous 8 days or since your last reset. That said, if you reset within the last 8 days, then disregard what I said about gaining back a few hours after midnight. Either way, I estimate you to have about 6 hours of drive time ahead of you plus what ever on-duty time it takes to load and unload, so if your time estimates are correct then you should make it without any trouble.
rocknroll81 and DJ Hughes Thank this. -
For a reset I'd just log it as Off Duty, but either/both will accomplish a reset.

I will have recap time coming Friday 6hours and 34mins

So if I get to first stop. I go on dutyfor ddelivery then jump right to off duty it will save me on the 70?
HorseShoe Thanks this. -
Go on duty for 15 minutes then off duty...show 5 minutes on duty before you leave. Only on duty and driving count against the 70.
Everyone logs time at shipper/receiver different....do what you gotta do to save that 70.
