I'll 3rd that commotion! LTL is probably best. I know some guys that drive for Estes and Saia; they leave out about nightfall and back home about daylight. There's is drop & hook.

Thats honestly a blessing to be more alert at night. Find a linehaul/road driver gig with an LTL freight company. 90% of the runs are straight through the night. With the right company you can have a mon-fri job being home every night with virtually no labor, and some of the best pay in the industry.
If you dont want to be home every night you could do a team operation with certain LTL companies using a sleeper cab. Or some companies have "wild" drivers, which basically are away from home mon-fri using a day cab and they get put in a hotel for their break. Both of these gigs are primarily weekends off.
Also, just to throw it out there since its a company in my area. Davis Express out of starke florida is a regional reefer carrier that claims to drive mostly at night due to a huge contract they have with Publix distribution centers. No clue what kinda pay they offer but their equipment is super nice.
Really, if you live in or close to a large city, just check with whatever local carriers you see running around. Most will have work split into shifts and if so will probably be hurting for people that are willing to do night work ...
Good luck -
As have I. I have also done LTL (though I was day time city P&D)---as stated, those are by far your best opportunities to run in the dark.
Tyson drivers talk about running at night (those that like it praise it, and those that hate it whine...but none the less, that is the conversation).
If you are in the Midwest (nobody ever puts their location in their profile when asking questions---WHY?) Dohrn Transfer is an independent LTL carrier that seems to always be hiring for Line Haul.
And since Food Distribution is so much physical work, they have a hard time hanging onto drivers, so they always seem to be hiring as well. If you're young enough, you can get used to it---work a "system" out for yourself, and it becomes nothing but a thing. You'll either love it and make REALLY good money, or you will hate it and quit before your 90 day probation period. When I did it...I didn't mind the work; it was the ungodly hours in which the work was preformed that got me. -
I LOVE night running. Night time is when I feel most alive. I don't know why.
bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
it is because you can drive while nekked and no one can see you.
i tried it one night myself..
unfortunately, it was in the winter, temps at or below zero...
my god, the shrinkage... -
I drove at night when on the east of the Mississippi when ever I could. I hated working my way around cities in day time traffic............especially the northeast. Like other have already stated.....line driving, or LTL.....would be a nice fit for you.
Good luck. -
I've been with two big companies and the last year and a half with a mom and pop company (actually the bosses are brother and sis) I do more night driving, which is what I love, then ever before. Like you, I'm nocturnal. In fact I'm on a break right now and going stir crazy because I can't sleep at night very well.
DoubleO7 Thanks this. -
If you're a new CDL grad; Reddaway might hire you for LTL.
Con-way LTL also hires new CDL grads, but don't know anything about their LTL operation. -
Not anymore with the driver cams. -
Then you are a rare breed. It certainly does NOT agree with everyone.DoubleO7 Thanks this.
