I am in the process of relocating to the Clinton County area due to a family member illness. I drove for KLLM Transport to get my experience. I drove for 3.5 years before coming off the road and getting a local job in Florida. Now I am faced with a new problem and need to find either a local job or a dedicated lane near where I'll be living. My wife is going to be caring for her dad while I work. Is there anyone that can provide me some trucking companies that pay better based on experience and not a beginner company. I greatly appreciate any advice and or information given.

    Thanks in Advance

PA is the place to be if you want to drive a dump truck or do local delivery.

What kind of yrailer do you drag?

There are all kinds of carriers in PA. Big, little, and in between. Are you looking for OTR? Head to Harrisburg or Philly, where the big boys play. Regional? Look around the whole state. Local? Find the beverage distributors.

A warning from a long time PA resident: PA based carriers can give the big boys advanced lessons on driver screwing. Everything from crap equipment to crap loads that break HOS to deliver on time to missing paychecks. Generally all with the same carrier!

If you are gonna work for a PA based small carrier, plan on:
    1) fixing their truck on your dime, or getting shut down by the DOT.
    2) ignoring the HOS and basic safety to get "hot" freight thru.
    3) ducking every scale.
    4) hauling 54,000lbs. Of freight on a BOL that claims 44,000lbs.
    5) working four weeks straight, then begging for a paycheck. Boss will generally (and ungraciously) realize that you do need at least 1/4 of the money you earned to survive. Kiss the other 3/4 goodbye, though. You'll NEVER see it.

All of this comes from personal experience. There are numerous reasons why I work for a carrier based in Tennessee!:angryfire:

I'll be living between Lock Haven and Renovo. My wifes father lives in Renovo. Somewhere within an hour of Renovo is ideal. But am Flexible.

Wow....sorry to hear that. I work for a small carrier in central Pa, and I've had just the opposite experience. Paychecks always on time and accurate, top notch equipment, we run legal, and we don't touch the equipment, other than to change a light bulb or a wiper blade.

Do I work hard? Dang right I do. Could I make more elsewhere? Yeah if I wanted to live in the truck.

My only gripe is PA roads suck!

Can't reccomend anybody up there, as I'm not too familiar with Renovo area. I believe Lock Haven has a few LtL carriers in the area.

I worked for a few small outfits in NW PA back when I drank the KoolAid that smaller companies treat you better. Yeah, nothing says "great treatment" like going to your boss on Friday with your hat in your hand, begging for a pittance of a paycheck. Especially when the boss is driving a brand new Hummer, his wife has a new diamond every week, and his mistress gets all the toys.

NW PA could teach China on how to (mis)treat employees.

Unfortunately in the trucking industry, no one cares about the drivers when they are the ones making the company succeed???
