Read my experience with DTB in Carlisle, Pa, there is a topic on this place and see whether you still want to deal with DTB.
My experience was not good, not recommended. Not just this particular place, but idea of shipping, paying for something, which may or may not been done etc. You can see by yourself how fast $$ is raising.

I think it has already been posted about what a rip off cb shops are. Buy another radio and do the peak and tune yourself. Open the bottom cover on cobra 29 all models. Turn vr4 counter clock wise all the way, turn tuning slug inside of L14 two complete turns counter clock wise. And that's it. Cobra 25 is vr5 and it turns clock wise. And L10 is running coil on it. If a cb shop tells you they can get it to do more than 18-25 watts just walk away. You can get peak and tune info on the web. And you can gets the parts layouts of any radio from cbtricks. 18' coax and Francis antenna is really hard to beat for $40 bucks total.

Here is your thread you refer to. DTB has been around for years and is known among his peers as a good technician, NOT your normal "truck stop hack". You had a bad "BUSINESS" experience with him that you admitted might have been your own fault. Why do you continue to "trash talk him"? All of the "regulars" here have read your complaint. To continue bashing him reflects poorly on you. And if you are going to bad mouth him, you should post the thread so the new comers can see what you are talking about.

Well I took it back to the original "tuner" and he said another radio burned it down....I told him I was on a desolate OK two-lane and highly unlikely. Then he started scraping wax from the transformer where it had melted and said that ambient cab temps probably started melting the wax when truck was parked and they shorted out causing the issue. There was actual burned marks on the inside of the cover above the transformer. I emailed DTB and he said all that is possible but not probable basically. I think I'll send it to him to repair/tune it and keep my other radio bone stock just because. DTB seemed like he was very straightforward and honest in the email exchanges and I have no doubt he knows what he's doing based on the many positive things people have said about his work.

I think you'll be well satisfied. (For the record: I don't know DTB, have never talked to him nor done business with him. But I am familiar with him going way back to the early years of CB Tricks. He has the respect of his peers as a being a "good tech" that knows what he is doing.)

    Mike5511,

I glad that someone had good experience with DTB. I've described mine:
    - I've got charged for more, than I asked to do.
    - Even simple easily visible part of what I have been billed for has not been done. Radio had same storage dust/dirt as it had before even though "cleaning" was included in invoice. As I said I do not even want to open radios and see what has been done inside.

Someone asked opinions on whether mail radio to CB shop, I gave it. I did not say DTB always does bad job or never send radio to any CB shop. That would be bashing as I understand. This is what I said instead: Not just this particular place, but idea of shipping, paying for something, which may or may not been done etc. You can see by yourself how fast $$ is raising.
Would you like to debate it? Do you have another opinion? Ok, I have no problem with that. I have mine, again, based on my experience with this particular shop.

Did I say it was my fault? Where? I said I would give DTB benefit of a doubt because of good experience of other members on this site, but again if I listed what need to be done in accompanied notes, as requested, I would expect it would have at least some weight.

And what again reflect poorly on me? That I did not have good experience with DTB? Well, to the some extend...

Post #46 in the aforementioned thread. I'm done now. The posts are all there for anyone to read and draw their own conclusions. If something was not right with your radio, then I believe it was an honest mistake or misunderstanding. DTB has been around too long and has too good of a reputation to discredit him over one transaction.

Yeah, jack the AMC wide open and back the tuning slug out if you want less power on the fundamental frequency.

You can't properly tune a radio without an oscilloscope and a spectrum analyzer. This is an absolute fact. There is no room for opinions here.
