Oh yea I can see a rail siding at every store.... and people complain about big trucks. Oh it would a lot of fun...traffic would always be in backup mode.

what exactly is the EPA standard for train engines? Every time I see a big cloud of black smoke in the sky there is a locomotive under it. How many trucks does it take to produce the amount of pollution released by one train?

Like the article mentioned though, the railroads have a HUGE congestion problem right now. The US Chamber of Commerce estimates that it will cost $148 billion over the next 30 years to expand the current track system to carry more freight. Trains running out of the east have issues with smaller tunnels that won't permit double height container loads. 40% of all rail freight travels through Chicago and it is already maxed out. A train broken down here can stop rail traffic from coast to coast.

Very true... I guess the JIT freight will not be on time... as soon as they hold up a trailer someplace.. and they will get what they need from the railroads.
stopped and waiting for the tracks to clear -
Kingman, Az is an old railroad town. BNSF comes through numerous times daily. It seems like mostly JB Hunt 80%, then Schneider 15%,the rest Swift and misc. containers. These trains are the longest trains you can imagine.

Kingman also has 4 truck stops on I 40. So we might be considered a trucking town as well.
