In my area Knight is advertising "pick your home time" 6on/1 off, 14/2, 7/7, 14/7... there's your home time. Unfortunately, Everyone hates them, or so the internet told me.

Schneider is offering a home once a week gig... could be dollar stores... duno yet. They don't pay very well. Also, people hate them.

Nobody is advertising 8 hours a day, weekends off, except for beverage distributors and gravel haulers. The beverage guys are offering walmart wages. Sand and gravel want 2 yrs otr. Wages aroung 16-18/hr. That's 35k/yr without overtime. You'll work overtime, then possibly get laid off a couple months cuz you're the new guy.

According to the internet, absolutely *No* Company advertising 50k/yr means it. I'm seeing that posted by Gordon/heartland, CREngland, Swift... I'm told they're all liars. Maybe with 2 yrs experience, you can get that kind of rate, and the mileage to rake it in, but you won't get your home time or your 8 hour day.

You can probably get 2 of the things you want, but not all 3. I'd look into gravel If I had 2 yrs driving combos. They might still want legit OTR experience for insurance, but it's probably worth a look.

Glad I could help. Read here first, you might see something you can't deal with. Like all Mega Carriers, there's no shortage of bad reviews, valid or not.

Hey Leaf, this is an old thread but you should check out a nursing degree. You're young, go back to school for a couple years and get your RN or Registered Nurse degree. Either an associates or bachelors in nursing will work... you will work 3 twelve hours shifts in a hospital and four days off. Full benefits, perks, and way over 50k a year... then check out "Travel Nursing" as a specialty within the nursing field after 1 year of experience. With this path you can work in different cities and can opt for 3, 6, 9 or 12 month contracts with same schedule stated above, but you can take as much time off after completing the contract... without getting fired from the prospective hospitals you sign a contract with... example: work a 3 month contract in Miami, a 6 month contract in San Diego, a 3 month contract in Atlanta an so on... after each contract you can do whatever such as travel abroad, chill at home, work a different job, do nothing, etc. As long as you complete your signed designated length of contract and keep up with your continuing education classes every 2 years required in Healthcare (super easy and hospital pays for it) you can do what you want. Plus health care is needing nurses so bad you can re-up your contract really easy and stay in the same city if you prefer in travel nursing... but it affords you the money and flexibility you are looking for. I talk from experience as I'm applying to nursing programs... you can work the oilfields on your summer break (school is 4 semesters usually) or you can take time off nursing once you get into those travel nursing contracts, and go drive a truck in between... just stay focused because the schooling is demanding and you are literally putting other peoples lives in your hands... but you will have experience with that as truckers do that on a daily basis and we have balls of steel...take action and good luck

There is NO such thing as a 8 hour or less day in trucking. If you were doing nothing, you are actually waiting as if you were chained to the pay phone. Wait, wait and wait.

I debatied responding, I don't like to feed trolls more than necessary. It's possible you know nothing at all about what demands are placed upon you hours wise in this industry.

I don't think you really know what nurses go through. My wife and daughter are both registered nurses and they have to work their ##### off! Somebody who's looking to take a nap after 4 hours of -wait for it-driving! Or 7 days off after 7 days on! Absolutely does not have what it takes to care for human beings in a system that is not designed for the comfort of nurses! Sorry man but no way.
