Sodrel Transportation will finance your CDL school. Check the website. They're local/regional.

Old Dominion is one of the best for local/LTL and a few months ago the terminal in Indy hired a new CDL grad that lives in Indy.
Another new CDL grad landed a $60K job pulling hazmat tankers out of Ft. Wayne.

Some of those trucking company schools are good; you have to pay for school one way or the other. Pay the bank or pay the trucking company.

    Then there's:
    Tidewater Transit
    Superior Carriers
    Groendyke Transport
    SVTN

    Rob S Thanks this.

Ignore "experience" requirements....everyone in Indianapolis is hiring and always will be...no need to settle for crap pay in Indy. There are to many options in Indy so deciding will be hard. You will never have to spend a night in a truck if you don't want to.

However these jobs aren't going to fall into your lap sitting in front of a computer....go down to Holt Road and start looking.

I am living in Korea at this time and am not in a position to go down Holt road , although I have been there before as I am from Indiana.
Can you share with me a few of those company 's names so I can do some research. I am planning to move back to Indy soon , any help would be appreciated. I did stop in and visit with a Knight recruiter 2 years ago. They seemed ok as far as I could tell. Pay seemed pretty low for new drivers.

Hey Rob , I also been looking for a school and a company to drive for. There are so many and it is very hard to make a choice. I think last year Sage schools in Indy and Muncie had some company's they hooked up with and one was Carter Express out of Anderson , IN. And it seems like they have you home almost every weekend.
Do a search in the search box for them and you will get more info. Seemed like it could be a good place.

Can you share what school you will attend and where you decide to go when it happens ?
I will be living in Kokomo , IN and hoping to get a good job around there also.

    Good luck !

    Rob,

If you want to go local you should check out Safe Drivers Institute of America (SDIA). The school is owned by Sodrel Truck Lines and you will likely be offered a job with Sodrel upon completion. They are a contract mail carrier. Home daily, well-paid hourly - If you don't mind driving at night.

YRC and Old Dominion also hire out of SDIA. Great school and great opportunities upon completion. And, as Chinatown mentioned, they will finance the cost of school.

Rob S and Chinatown Thank this.

Thanks Guys, I do appreciate the feedback. I did call Sodrel and they allow you to pay off the tuition cost every two weeks which runs about $230.. So take home pay is about $1400..minus insurance etc... Initial year would be about $34k and then you get a $.40 increase each year. Its great you can come home daily, but they do not pay per hour.. Its a straight 55 hour pay check. I am going to look into YRC and Old Dominion to see what they have to offer.. but your right about the School, I noticed it has more opportunities to work locally.

Probably make the most money at Old Dominion.
I worked for YRC in another state running OTR pulling reefers and made avg. $55K, but that was 10 years ago.
    Sodrel's pay is too low.

    Rob,
At Sodrel, hauling mail, you are paid 25.50/hr for the first 40 hrs and 19.65/hr for all other hours. (Probably sounds strange, ... It has to do with the postal contract)
You would get all the hours you can handle. You would make over 60k/year there. I don't know who you talked with but what you posted is not accurate. Call SDIA. They will give you the facts about Sodrel. It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good driving job.
