Some by the hr others by the load. Ive drove logger off and on for 15 years. Log trucks in the west are not the same as a plantation job like Arkansas. Most outfits will not hire a green driver off the hiway. You will kill yourself. Maybe start out driving a chip truck or a lumber truck first. Then after a few years of that check into loggers.

If logging paid per mile there'd be a ####-ton of broke loggers. Pulling 40 tons of wood out of the bush takes time and it's extremely slow going sometimes (be prepared to chain up several times per day in winter).

Around here in BC/AB they'll typically run year round minus a couple weeks in spring when the mud hits (can't be productive when you've got to shut the skidder down to pull every truck off the landing in diff deep mud).

Owner ops usually get paid per ton/hr (eg $2.80×40 tons = $112/hr). Each trip will have a cycle time (eg 6 hrs per load) so if you were to haul 2 loads based on the examples I gave you'd gross about $1344 per day. Most drivers I know of are paid per hour.
