I know a guy who always blows by the Banning scales. Says they have never chased him down.

I've been in the weigh stations with pre-pass systems, and I can't figure out how they can tell a pre-pass truck from a scale runner. I'm pretty sure most of them can't tell, either.

You can bet your bottom dollar they know. A computer knows the truck and will red light the truck every so often. Just to check the weight. Otherwise they dont know the weight. For this to happen you have to have a transponder in the front window. And if you notice you will travel through a set of sensors a few miles before the scale house.
That gives the computer time to decide if you come or go. You would need many humans to do this job otherwise.
Sometimes but not always the sensors will be pointed away from the road. That is when they are not reading and sending out green to all. Basically the coops are closed. ,

I got a ticket years ago for running a scale that was backed up and if I had stopped I would have been in a traffic lane. I took it to the judge and he saw it my way, probably cost me just as much to see the judge but no points.

They know the weight of EVERY truck in Laurel/Billings before you enter the scale. The weigh in motion gets them pretty close.

I have never missed a scale I knew was there. I also never visited a scale that I knew was there. Mistakes happen cut the guy a break. People should be able to ask a question without having the wrath of the old wagon train masters judging them. Most people ask a question to get a honest answer and gain some valuable knowledge from experienced drivers. If they wanted judgment they would be at themyexwife forums
