OK. I should have said, I am posting this for the benefit of drivers who were looking. My past gig did not have anythings other than cents/mile, to speak off. It wasn't meant to bash anyone, but give someone the hope of possibilities for a decent driving gig.
It all depends on the person... For instance:
UPS Parcel tractor driving may be the best gig out there for someone else who has the time to wait for a bid and can slog at least a couple of years being on call at all kinds of hours and the possibility of no hours on some weeks.
UPS Freight may be second best for some others.
However, at my age, I like the solid start times at my terminal, regular bid route and the flexibility of taking a break when I want. For instance, one night I was sick and took a 3 hour nap. Freight was late, but no one even asked me why I did what I did. I simply told them I had a head cold and had to take a nap.
I like the fact, there are no cameras, no computers to monitor what I am doing, no GPS, paper logs and total freedom like trucking was meant to be.
I like union dues compared to several hundred per month for benefits premium. I like the very, very low or no deductibles.
Pension may not be there. But I am not counting on it. I may be on this job for a few years, may be less until my future plans materializes. I don't know of any other companies other than Union guys having even a possibility of the pension.
I am not going address the petty issues of driver's clothing etc., as it doesn't merit a dialogue.
I would rather the union big shots drain me than the lawyers and corporate accountants who always think they are better than you. Until the unions return to America, I think the good jobs are going overseas or the pay and benefits are going to be stolen by the wealthy for the wealthy. Did that long enough and now I know better.
So you can let the foxes guard the hen house with your union bashing.

When the rest of the labor force in America understand the system, Unions will grow again. You most likely did not have 47995 lbs on that trailer. In the freight business rates are determined sometimes by weight, so a shipment that was 8200 lbs gets a cheaper rate at 10,000 lbs, so they rate it. 8200. As 10,000 lbs then add 10000 to the trailer load weight, but it is actually still only 8200 lbs. I enjoyed the 14 years I had at Yellow, was treated well and made decent money. 11 years of that was 'on call' extra board. Even considered returning, but have not yet. I can work nights, weekends and Holidays where I am now.
greyweulf Thanks this. -
i tried yrc linehaul for about 3 months, i was 275th on the seniority board so when oct. nov.dec. rolled around i was pretty much unemployed with no income. had to move on with more steady work. but i guess it was a learning experience. just the system i guess.

The union big shots will still drain the pension funds even more to donate to Hillary Clinton and other Democrats running for office.[/QUOTE]
Would like to see proof that the money is being funneled directly to Hillary, considering she hasn't even secured the nomination. -
She's still running and it cost money for all the traveling she's doing. Maybe it's not going directly to Hillary, but the money is still going to the Democrat campaign fund which she can dip into. That's why I posted, "To Hillary and other Democrat candidates."
That's one reason I was in the Teamsters only briefly after I realized the big shots were blowing money like crazy on lavish trips and retreats, political campaigns, fancy cars, high end hotel rooms. That money should have been in the retirement fund and healthcare fund. Seems like I made the right decision by not wasting my working life in the Teamsters because now the retirement fund and healthcare fund is bankrupt, but it doesn't affect me.Arkansas Frost, Lonesome and Sneakerfix Thank this. -
they pander for votes attacking the big evil corporation somewhere while taking their cash
people go for it not realizing its about their job and their city
now we have punished the big company bankrupted them or driven them over seas
oh my god!!
what ever happened to my pension and my bennies!! -
they had in the news that the teamsters were meeting with trump soon they aren't backing any democrats yet. second pensions are backed by the government third healthcare isn't being cut and forth what drivers in this room are making a hundred plus a year I rest my case
-
Well as long as they're backing Trump...

PBGC - Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. is an independent agency of the US Government created to protect employee pensions. Yes, that's true, but if the pension fund is turned over to this organization, you will not get the full amount; only a small portion of the full amount. Ask me how I know! Yes, it sucks to have your pension downgraded to $159.00 a month. This wasn't a union pension, but the same applies with Central States. I got the last laugh by having a backup plan called rental property and a 401K. Many of the drivers didn't have diddly-squat for a backup plan.Last edited: Oct 3, 2015

Glad you think you made the right decision for your life, only you can determine that. I too have made the right decision and should be able to retire at 55 with or without my Teamster pension. My rental properties, savings, and 401 (k) will be enough to last until I die and extend to assist my children.
You speak of lavish trips, hotel rooms, etc that union bosses may or may not have abused. What's the ratio, in your mind, of company CEO's that have abused the system, crashed their respective stocks, and walked away with golden parachutes vs. The number of 'Union Bosses' that have abused the system?
And is it okay for the same CEO's to donate to politicians that may or may not have your agenda in mind?
