don't be a jerk. This person has pride in his company and his job. Don't tear him down because you had a hard time in life.

I was top pumpkin in charlotte in november 06, and dang proud of it. How did I do it? I sat in my hotel room every night and read the doggone homework while others were in the lobby makin drama. I asked for extra help. I got plenty of rest.

While that won't make you any friends, you do get a little tingle for a couple minutes when you sign the big orange truck and make your speech. :biggrin_25515:

(I could've sworn I replied to this thread earlier...)

If you get to board at the extended stay america, your life will be easier because there is a shuttle that will take you to the store and restaurants. There is another hotel they contract with but I don't know if it is for students.

    Avoid the drama down there!

The simulators are not a pass/fail situation.

Practice your gears before you get there and yes, the graph of speeds for gears is important.

Don't bother feeling self conscious about grinding gears, absolutely everyone does it and they don't even hear it anymore.

    Hi Jeff,
I just finished the school in Charlotte this week. Start CDL week tomorrow. DannyB, pretty much covered everything. The only thing I could add is you're going to be getting alot of info, and at times it can seem overwhelming. Don't be afraid to ask questions about something you may not understand. The instructors are more than willing to help out. Good luck to you.

There are always exceptions to every rule.............

However, as a current "rule" pumpkin is looking for team drivers..........

If you think about the numbers......... it makes sense.......... :yes2557:

??? Does anyone know if they will find a person for you to team with if you don't arrive as a team? Is that an option for some???

Schneider will have no qualms whatsoever about putting you in a 8 x 12 box with someone you don't know and expect you to be best friends!!!! Enjoy that teaming thing. (yes, theyll give you a partner)

The FONTANA terminal has been primarily a team operation for years. Schneider's other terminals would probably have more opportunities for solo drivers.

    Are you kidding?

Why would Schneider have "qualms" about putting someone in a "8 x 12 box with someone you don't know"?
Isn't that the job you applied for?
Or did Schneider kidnap you and force you to do it?

I sure don't think that Schneider "expects" their teams to become "best friends".
But the closer to good friends y'all are able to become, the better y'all's chances for success.

A GOOD team is hard to come by.
Your first, or first few co-drivers probably won't be a match --- ESPECIALLY if y'all are predisposed to the negative.
A GOOD team functions much like a GOOD marriage. Give & Take.

Those lacking the skills to get along with just about anybody, would find it more difficult to find a suitable co-driver. Part of Big truck truckin' is people skills.

I attended Schneider orientation in Wilsonville, Oregon, and ran out of the Fontana yard.
I also attended driver trainer training in Green Bay, by CHOICE, because the training there was Waayyy more intense. Especially at twenty-below zero.
And later, the skid pad at Fox Valley Tech -- on REAL ice.

What has been mentioned in this thread already -- The MORE y'all put INto y'all's training, the MORE y'all WILL benefit.

My motel room mate for trainer training used the "free" hours after class to party with a few others, instead of cracking the books to learn and review.
I had about 3 years total Big truck truck driving experience, and he had over ten years.
    He flunked out.
    Imagine that.
Seems he didn't know as much as he THOUGHT he knew.
    Now, maybe, he knows.

While in orientation and/or training, your every waking hour should be concentrated on Big truck truckin'.
And, if after all that, you find yourself DREAMIN' about truckin' ---
you just might make it to the top.

    They will, if necessary.
    I was fortunate.
While attending driving school, I met another student who also wanted to be hired by Schneider -- and was hired about 2 weeks before me.
We had made plans while in school, that if we both made the grade, and were hired by Schneider, we'd request to be teamed together.
And Schneider had NO problem with that, AT ALL. And we made a GOOD team because we already knew each other, and had similar goals in the Big truck truckin' industry.

    YeAH!
    Whuzzup with that?!

    Geeze louise!
Is Schneider -- or ANY truckin' company now expected to perform social services, too?
    Good GRIEF! :biggrin_2554:

    :biggrin_25514: :biggrin_25514: :biggrin_25514:

    Am I missing something? :biggrin_25524:

My first career choice years ago was to be a peace officer. I ultimately decided that having a family was more important to me so I gave up on that dream. You only have one life and choices do have to be made.

However, my point with this is that.......... back then officers were still teamed with a partner on most beats.
Because of lack of funds, many officers now must work alone. :biggrin_25513: :biggrin_2557:

I have never heard an officer say **** about being matched with a partner.......unless they had personality differences.....which of course happens and departments try to accomodate.... .. and many of these guys/gals work 4-10's which is a long shift to be together.............. :yes2557:

Why do "truck drivers" seem to have such a dislike for each other?? :biggrin_25521:

Yea, I'm very hard to get along with. I like it that way. Less BS. I didn't become a truck driver because I'm a people person!

But can you imagine it? Have you ever been to prison???(of course not if you're going to schneider) That truck is smaller than a 2 man cell!!

    NO privacy
    NO alone time
    NO silence

your OFF time, isn't even your OFF time! The truck is constantly moving!

There isn't even enough room in that truck for all my things for 4 weeks, now I have to add another person and their stuff?

Someone else is privy to my body functions and needs?

Have you folks thought about this???

    no thanks.

It does seem that way, doesn't it?
If nothing else, it's an interesting observation.
