My #### trainer would buy me dinner when we would eat outside of the truck. He would bring plenty of food from home and always make it clear it was for both of us. Including his wife's homemade chocolate chip cookies.... He would make me a cup of coffee in the morning... But get this.. I had to get my own 1/2 & 1/2. He drank his black... How abusive!! He would leave me all alone in the truck when I was backing up into a dock.... And spot me from outside. He would bring me to a truck stop during the day... Set up cones and teach me to back from different angles and such.. How humiliating!!!!!
When we broke down in Texas and knew we were gonna be there a few days.... He rented a car and we went to the beach. He said the company pays the hotel... What's it matter if it's in San Antonio or Corpus Christi??? Never asked for a dime. Very insulting!!!

Kidding aside, we still talk several times a week, 1 1/4 years later. If I have a question or need to run a situation by him he is always open ears and full of advice. Really good dude... I know I was lucky!!

I for one would never stick myself in that small of space with a stranger for that amount of time. It really makes me wonder about the people that make that choice.
All you have to do is sit by the entrance to a truck stop and look at the people walking through the door. Then ask yourself if you really want to live in a truck for weeks on end with that kind of people. The choice is easy for me.

Even when I was training our new drivers how to run the equipment for a few days I would go crazy.

I was lucky to get a trainer that wasn't a complete jaggoff but toward the end he did start opening up about his religious beliefs (Muslim) and getting on my nerves. I thought it was funny how many stories he told me mirrored stories from the bible. He didn't see the humor so I did a lot of nodding.

Not my trainer, but after the ice storm in Georgia, last year, a trainer very nicely suggested his student walk in my steps because lizards are sure footed.

I added to his lesson by writing some nice things about him in the dirt on his trailer doors. Pretty sure that d-bag wasn't pretripping.

I had a trainer from hell once. I had started this particular job while expecting other job offers and wasn't sure I'd stay if better job offers came thru.

This pos was arrogant and thought I was his slave. He also smoked one cig after another in a hazmat tanker which is illegal, and he'd say 'don't rat me out for this'

After 4 days a better job offer came thru and I quit and told him to go eff himself.

Over the next few weeks I had some friends call the 1 800 # off the back of his truck and report him for smoking, and weaving all over the road.

Heard some time later that he was fired. Don't know for sure if it was because of the friends I had call in on him, but I'd like to think it at least contributed to him getting axed.

    Payback is a b...i..tch

I am fortunate to have never dealt with this trainer situation while getting a foot in the door. The folks at my first company were kind enough to spare me that bs. They put me in an automatic truck and said something like, you shouldn't kill anybody driving this. after a few months, i knew all the shift points perfectly and it took me 1 day to master shifting. After that, the rest was history; I was a professional driver. If I had this horrendous experience right off the bat, I'd have never made it in my trucking career. I'd be a wash out like the other 90 percent of commercial driver license holders.

I wouldn't say my first trainer was abusive...but I was having trouble getting one of the trailers doors to close and he didn't like it. He was about 350lbs and decided it would be best if he used his body to push me out of the way. Was off his truck the next day.

Next trainer was crazy as hell but taught me to pull forward when having trouble getting the door closed...explained why they get tweeked sometimes.

Glad I never have to do that training #### again.
