Thank you for the update! Surviving on $9.50 is going to be difficult for 2 months, but we are paying off as much as we can and finding a good solution for our home. Looking forward to more updates.

Yeah no problem!
Although prepare your finances to go a month without pay. In fact you'll need money for daily food expenses. The school is 3 weeks unpaid. Swift does pay for the school but you do not receive a check during that time. You don't start getting paid until the second week of your mentor program being that it's a week behind. So orientation week after school is the first paid week at min. wage cause it's on duty only time. But if you max out your 14 mostly driving you can do the math. It's enough to make it until you get upgraded. It's usually about $100-$120 a day.TBonze Thanks this. -
How much are you guys making each week for training ? Gross
-
Hard to answer yet because we have only got one check so far. Since pay is a week behind. So next Tuesday I'll know what a full week is like. I'm expecting around $550-$600 gross. Just an estimate though. I got $350 this week for half a week. So I guess we'll see how many hours I get. It's not bad. Not a living but it is acceptable while training for 4 weeks.TruckDuo Thanks this.

If they do it hourly like swift did for me your estimate is about right. I grossed 500-600 through training. $9.50/hour driving, $7.50/hour on duty.
TruckDuo and MyecRunners Thank this. -
Yep that's what they are doing for us. I'm pretty content with it.TruckDuo and CasanovaCruiser Thank this.

Has your trainer been letting you do most of the backing?
If you pull into a truck stop that's not busy ask if you can practice backing and park the truck 3 or 4 times. The repetition is what really made it click for me, my trainer and I could tell you the day the difference was so clear. I was practicing in Arkadelphia one night and everything just clicked for me. Never had any trouble after that.TruckDuo Thanks this. -
Yeah he has been good about having me do all the backing. I took a day at the back of a terminal to back a few times and that helped a lot. Still working on getting a better set up to start with.TruckDuo Thanks this.

if you have trouble getting everything lined up right I've found that if I pull forward more than is necessary so that I have plenty of room to get everything lined up in reverse I can guide the trailer into the hole with smaller steering adjustments. It also helps if you're having trouble seeing where the spot is in your mirrors, that was really tough for me for some reason. I still park like that if there's room, but after watching drivers at truck stops I've come to the conclusion that everyone has something different in their comfort zone. There's gotta be a million ways to set yourself up and back, you just gotta find the one that makes you feel like a rock star lolLast edited: Oct 5, 2015

That sounds about right to me! Lol yeah I'm the same way. And I have been pulling up pretty far. Sometimes my mentor is like, where are you going? Lol but I tell him, I do what I gotta do to get that trailer in safely. I told him, I'm confident that I can get a trailer in a spot, may not be quick and it may not be in one shot but I will get it in there without hitting something if it means I gotta use many pull ups and get out and looks. Lol and generally I've pretty much decided to use all the room that is available to me at any given place. Even if I don't need it.CasanovaCruiser Thanks this.
