But a warm block makes it much easier. I got my block heater wired in to generator on apu. I am like you , having it plumbed into coolant system defeats the purpose, but non generator equipped apu, its only way

No their not. That's when I started to ask about cold starting an engine. After that I never plugged my block heater into my APU. My batteries were always at 100% with the APU running and the truck fired right up.

Why don't you keep it warm to make it easier on the motor? Does it cause problems with your APU ?
I used to plug my truck into my Onan quiet diesel genset when I had a custom sleeper, made the engine happy during the winter but used a little more fuel.. -
It will start but most engine damage occurs during cold startups. You should at least have the pan heated to get good oil flow. Saves a lot of wear and tear
