Marines just don't take off and leave a fellow American behind I was over there as a marine working with KBR and we never left anyone not even the Pakistani drivers. It was in our ROI to stop and engage the enemy unlike the army who just sped up and fled. You may be confusing this with the marines left to go kill the enemy and he was left in the convoy to sit and wait. And unfortunately that's the risk you take your a civilian in a warzone.
Sorry to rant but such an ignorant statement.

Yup, he was left alone to lay on the floor of his truck while being shot at and nobody around. I have the emails and pictures from him. This happened to a convoy twice and those Marines got reamed a new one. He and others were led into many dangerous places with no way out. The whole convoy had to back out while being hit with rocks, bricks and bottles and anything else they could get their hands on. Little kids too.
He's been back home for a while. KBR is paying him a huge settlement. Enough for the rest of his life.iamchrisstone Thanks this. -
If you go to ethier don't forget your camel with a fax machine strapped to its back powered by a 12volt battery!

IDK, sometimes wanting to work in the middle east sounds more like a blind desire to commit suicide or to enhance a good dose of ptsd. I dont think kevlar helps too much however if you make it out alive you can honestly say.. been there done that..
Alaska is on my bucket list. IDK burriamchrisstone Thanks this. -
I didn't read all of the responses ,so if I double up, my apologies.
The important thing to remember about the Middle East is ...
1)they HATE us
2)they HATE us
3)the miltary is largely gone and you will be a sitting duck
4)It's deathly HOT, and bitterly COLD at night. It's the desert
5)You won't be wielding an AR15 to protect yourself. .. you'll be gripping s steering wheel.
6)THEY HATE US
talked to a guy the other day that was going over to do some "support tech work" for 2 years. He said he was getting $900 a week, and thought that was a good deal. I told him he was insane.
