Article goes on to state that they're afraid they'll hurt little Johnny's feelings because he wasn't picked for the All Star team..
Earth to Beachwood! You wonder why we have an entire generation of spoiled, "me first", self centered brats that think the universe revolves around them? Take a look at all the enabling you and the stinking parents do!
It's high time we started teaching our kids that life is NOT fair, the world does NOT revolve around them, and there are going to be times that life stinks to high heaven and there's not a bloody thing you can do about it.

Agreed, Biker.
There are some that will win, some that will lose. If you don't give kids a chance to experience both aspects (and everything in between) they will not be well-rounded people. Avoiding failure doesn't save them, it makes them helpless when it eventually happens.
I coached youth sports for 13 years- and don't have any mal-adjusted "graduates" to speak of, or at least those that had issues because of losing a game or not being included in an all-star game. If anything, those failures made them stronger people. Go figure? Right.
This "protecting kids from everything" mania all over now, is getting totally out of control. -
I have been dealing with this crapola, for 6 years I am not sure if I should even start on this one??Because no matter where you live it is all about the coaches kids, wether they suck or not!! Five home runs for my youngest, and six for his older brother and youngest just made the team, him and his brother had the most home runs in the league, no problem for my older boy, he is tall and skinny, but the short stout one, is a tad overweight, but he is huge up top, and I was told, that that was the reason why. Well alot of parents where furious he did not make the team, so they voiced there opinions, and he got on. Again, another problem this year!!! A friend I was talking to started talking to me about this, and I told her do not even start to get upset, because you will be a wreck!!!! We are the only ones that dont live in the village, and hubby is blue collar, as I was told three years ago, by another felow, I am blue collar , and I dont fit in???? I cannot even continue this tyrade. I could go on and on!!! The favoratism is enough to make you vomit! If you have not experienced it you would never understand!! As I have told my husband I would love to be a guy for just 5 min, he is not as contraversal as me.
They have baseball in there blood, my father was scouted by the Yankees, but got called for the Korean war. Hubby was hitting homers in Babe ruth.
As for me I only played basketball. I should have added that when picking an Allstar team or travel team, it should go soley on your record of how you did thruout the year, not just because you are so and so.

Yep... that says it all, Biker!
-
I am with you on that -
Yes I do belive in some of that ,my boys so no that life is not fair, but if he hit the ball all year, and a someone got picked who did not hit a single ball all year, but had clout amongst others, then that is what the upsetness is all about! I mean after all whats fair is fair, when you really think about it! Should be all about whats on paper, now that would have put an end to this whole matter,as you cannot deny what is in black and white.

This PC B.S. has to stop.
Life was never fair and victory/winning isn't always in your favor.
People need to get over this *&%, now.
What happens in the future when johnny goes for a Job interview? Should mommy and daddy go along. What happens when Johnny is turned down for that promotion because someone else is brighter and/or more productive hence, more valuable to the employer?
We're raising a nation of weak-kneed pansy's.
Life can be a B*&%# sometimes...get over it, move on, do something productive instead of whining. -
I give up!! I cannot win for loosing today!!!
