In my opinion there isn't a shortage of drivers there's a shortage of qualified drivers big difference between a driver and a qualified driver just my opinion and with all the hours of service ruels and elogs and low pay it just gonna get worse

If there are an estimated 800k drivers and there's a shortage of 50k drivers, that's only a 6% shortage? That doesn't seem huge to me.

These companies are competing for the same existing driver. It's not uncommon for drivers to jump from one company to the next every year or two.

The part of the article that wasn't really underscored is the fact that our industry isn't attracting new drivers.

I personally think the old OTR model of drivers going out for weeks on end is outdated. Companies that can combine closer to home routing, along with better pay and amenities won't have difficulties keeping their trucks rolling.

I'm an O/O and am home at least 3 times a week and easily make 10k a month without breaking a sweat. So, a decent living combined with a somewhat balanced lifestyle in this industry is achievable.
